We have an exciting opportunity for a Court Support Clerk to join our Criminal Justice Unit on a temporary basis for 12 months. The Criminal Justice Unit deals with the processing and administration of prosecution matters in partnership with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) & HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS).Role Purpose:Supporting the file preparation process of the digital case file, to achieve the objectives of ensuring cases are progressed to CPS and through the court systems.Key Responsibilities:

  • Interrogate, maintain, and retrieve data/information using various computer and manual recording packages, accurately contributing to monitoring activities for own and multi-agency partnership purposes.
  • Provide advice and guidance to officers regarding file content and court process
  • Liaison with HMCTS, CPS and external CJ agencies
  • Process Digital Files (Remand files, Charge and Bail files, to Court and CPS.
  • Review and check quality of Files, completing remedial/redaction work as necessary for first Court Hearings (Guilty Anticipated Pleas).
  • Identify any potential data breaches and report to the appropriate agencies/department and Supervisor, completing any remedial work as required.
  • Review Connect Task Boxes including identifying Action Plans/Memos forwarding to relevant parties for action.
  • Review computer systems following first court hearings and progress digital case file depending on result.
  • Finalisation of digital case files (Magistrates/Crown) including preparation of letters to victims/witnesses of crime.
  • Receive, Process and Review Appeal/Warrant/Committal for Sentence Files.
  • General admin duties including receipt/ maintaining e-mails and receiving incoming post and distributing within CJU.
  • Provide support and coaching to newly appointed court support officers and assist supervisors with “on the job” training to new court support officers during their induction period.

Skills and experience:

  • Experience of using Microsoft packages.
  • Experience in data input and retrieval of information.
  • Experience of word processing.
  • Experience of communication by a variety of means, including telephone and keyboard skills.
  • Flexibility to work overtime to meet organisational needs, and work at other locations within South Yorkshire if required.
