The position will be assigned to all platforms, including radio, social and broadcast. Keeping with corporate standards and policies, the journalist will produce video, audio and text content daily.This role requires full time on site presence and the successful candidate will work from the office and in the field. The schedule for this role is Sunday – Thursday.Key tasks:Pitch, research, write and produce original story ideas for CBC NL that will engage and inform the audience, with a focus on a younger diverse audience.Take photos and video when required for digital and broadcast purposes.Regularly present stories on radio and video platforms, providing analysis and context to enhance the audience’s understanding of issues.Respond quickly to breaking news events as they unfold.Distill large amounts of complex information under tight time constraints.Create content that falls outside of what is considered traditional news, focusing on a younger diverse audience.Cultivate and develop working relationships with a large pool of sources and contacts in Labrador.Collaborate with colleagues to develop and break stories, plan features and coordinate long-term coverage.We are looking for a candidate with the following:Ability to generate, pitch and pursue strong, creative story ideas.Understanding of the province’s rich traditions, diverse communities and political landscape.Able to work varying shifts, including weekends.A sense of adventure and desire to report from a remote location.Sound news judgment and ability to work effectively under newsroom deadline pressure.Experience in determining potential legal and journalistic issues and ability to act on them.Ability to create video content using iphone and accessories.Strong communication and interpersonal skills; strong team player.University degree or equivalent with a minimum of three years relevant experience preferred.Highly self-motivated with the ability to work independently.Possession of a valid driver’s license as well as a driving record that meets the minimum requirements of CBC/Radio-Canada’s insurance company.Please include additional documentation or a link to your online demo or website in your cover letter.Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.We thank all applicants for their interest, but only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.CBC/Radio-Canada is committed to being a leader in reflecting our country’s diversity.
