JLR’s Reimagine strategy – to realise our vision to be proud creators of the most desirable, modern luxury brands, for the most discerning of clients – is delivering a sustainability-rich vision of modern luxury by design and we are transforming our business to become carbon net zero across our supply chain, products, and operations by 2039.WHAT TO EXPECTThe Head of SDV Architecture will be a key part of the Technical Specialist community within Product Engineering and will be a strategic cross functional resource for the company.You will define the future vehicle off-board cloud & edge architecture and associated connected Apps & Voice for JLR, as part of product engineering, as well as the strategic direction architecturally & key offboard technologies utilised for current and future products.As a key leader in this space for JLR, you will be expected to teach, mentor and present at global conferences.THE ROLEKey Responsibilities

  • Develop a business aligned vision/strategy for technical delivery of the offboard architecture for AWS cloud, edge and associated apps
  • Responsible for the technical delivery of the architecture requirements across all offboard programmes aligned with onboard
  • Overseeing the development of new technologies across the offboard space, providing strategic vision and sponsorship of these technologies
  • Responsible for creating an environment for new technology development within the business
  • Support task force activities to solve complex engineering problems related to the future architecture of the vehicle digital platform
  • Expected to teach, mentor and present internally and at world class conferences
  • Formal sign off of the technical elements of offboard architecture for cloud, edge and apps
  • Work with other heads of roles to promote effective cross-functional delivery
  • Be a skilled team leader who is able to confidently communicate the value of the role to digital and non-digital stakeholders
  • Be credible and influential across the organisation

Key Performance Indicators

  • Leading the offboard architecture team so they have a clear and agreed understanding of the architecture roadmaps & direction
  • The architecture team has a clear and agreed understanding of scope, context and use cases for the year ahead tied into the ABR across the whole Vehicle Digital Platform
  • The architecture team has a clear understanding of high-level digital platform architecture requirements, technology standards and reference models for ABR and the upcoming QBR’s
  • Software engineering teams have an approved architecture ahead of development sprints
  • The architecture defined drives a pragmatic solution and can demonstrate commercial value through clear cost/benefit analysis
  • The offboard and aligned architecture is demonstrably reliable, scalable, and maintainable
  • Successful execution of architecture spikes is measurable through data and linked to the proven mitigation of architectural risk
  • Development of the architecture team to attain their technical aspirations and movement through the technical architectural career path
  • The architecture is architected according to best evolutionary, and event driven architecture models, and is also FinOps compliant so it is cost effective

WHAT YOU’LL NEEDEssential Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • In-depth knowledge and technical expertise in specialist offboard cloud technologies, complex systems and tools and processes at a senior management level, preferably within the global Amazon AWS space
  • Analytical skills including the ability to conduct complex research into new technologies and tools that will drive the next generation connected offboard cloud, edge and apps
  • Ability to effectively explain complex ideas, confidently presenting these to senior stakeholders
  • Experience of complex event driven and/or distributed cloud systems, globally
  • Degree or relevant equivalent experience preferred
  • Utilised one or more formal architectural process and modelling techniques (Such as TOGAF, UML etc)

Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Experience of complex connected vehicles or other connected IOT environments
  • Agile and Lean practices; knowledge/ experience of applying agile frameworks & working practices leading to agile architecture Leadership
  • Financial management: you know how to negotiate, influence or set budgets in complex environments. You can write or input into business cases and can communicate business-value propositions
  • Industry experience; knowledge of automotive challenges and domain
  • Change management; experience of delivering change in an organisation
  • Experience of working in a DevSecOps environment
