What Will Be Your Environment:

The Huddersfield Plant is situated in Yorkshire, with <50 employees

Our site specialises in the manufacture of additives for Lubrizol Performance Coatings. Working to ISO 9001:2015 and ISO-14001:2015 standards, the plant specializes in manufacturing both aqueous and solvent based resins, polymers, dispersants and adhesion promoters for the metals and coatings industries.

Working with our customers, we produce essential ingredients in the formulation of organic and inorganic pigments used in the paints and coatings, printing inks, plastics, wood finishing and metal coatings industries. Our products give the end user extremely efficient particle dispersion, particle size stability and provide the highest level of appearance and performance. The products manufactured at Huddersfield are widely used across the world.

What You’ll Do:

As a Process Chemist, you will provide onsite process support and solutions to the plant for new and existing products and processes. You will timely and efficiently trouble shoot, process plant issues. You will perform continuous monitoring of plant processes to proactively avoid processing, quality and safety issues, and carry out projects focused on continuous improvement initiatives with particular focus on improvements to existing products or processes and safety. You will also support the scale up of new products to plant.

You’ll collaborate with a diverse group of passionate individuals to deliver sustainable solutions to advance mobility, improve wellbeing and enhance modern life.

What We’re Looking For:

We are looking for an individual to carry out and participate in the development of projects to improve existing products or processes, conduct testing following all lab procedures and standards of care, ensuring completeness and accuracy of testing undertaken and results reported.

You will Coordinate new product introductions or raw material changes on plant with technical, production, quality and planning departments, and provide in process troubleshooting and support to the plant as well as continuing monitoring of plant processes. You will prioritise safety by actively participating in safety initiatives, e.g. stop work authority or SAROS, and operate in a safe manner.

Some tasks but not an exhaustive list:

  • Optimise existing processes to provide safety and quality improvements, cost savings, process efficiencies and energy saving opportunities.
  • Carry out raw material evaluations and lab trials of alternative raw materials for customer evaluation.
  • Provide in the moment troubleshooting to support plant and production requirements.
  • Maintain and contribute to plant MOC procedures.
  • Provide recipe and spec support for new products and existing product changes.
  • Provide support for QC on long term collaborative projects.
  • Coordinate between the R&D department, planning and operations over introduction of new products or process changes.
  • Carry out projects relating to development or improvement of analytical methods for analyses of in process parameters.
  • Conduct testing following all lab procedures and standards of care, ensuring completeness and accuracy of testing undertaken and results reported.
  • Operate in a safe and environmentally responsible manner and support site safety and environmental initiatives.
  • Operate in a manner that promotes Lubrizol cultural initiatives and continuous improvement ideology.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and incident investigations as required.

Skills That Make a Difference:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering or other related science/engineering discipline.
  • Strong and evidence problem solving and project management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent planning, organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to project work
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, collaborative, team environment
  • Strong IT skills and a good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

Considered a Plus:

  • Knowledge of experimental design (DOE) and data analysis.
  • Knowledge and application of SAP software.

Experience of analytical equipment e.g. viscometers, Titrandos, FTIR etc.
