As a GSK Senior Trade Mark Counsel, you will be responsible for managing and protecting the trade mark and copyright portfolio of our ViiV Healthcare business and other portfolios from our Pharma business. You will provide strategic and practical advice on all aspects of trade mark, copyright and related rights, including clearance, prosecution, enforcement, licensing, business development support and litigation. You will also support the development and implementation of global trade mark policies and best practices and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment and compliance.Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the trade mark portfolio of the ViiV Healthcare business and other portfolios from our Pharma business, including conducting searches, managing international filing programs, handling oppositions and cancellations.
  • Provide legal advice and guidance on trade mark and related matters, such as branding, advertising, domain names, social media and use of AI.
  • Advise on trade mark aspects of transactions, negotiate and draft trade mark related agreements to support business development transactions, such as licenses and assignments.
  • Monitor and enforce the trade mark rights of the ViiV Healthcare business, including identifying and addressing potential infringements, initiating and defending legal actions and resolving disputes.
  • Support the development and implementation of global trade mark policies and procedures and provide training and education to the ViiV Healthcare business on trade mark issues and best practices.
  • Responsible for staying up to date with developments in AI and copyright law and providing strategic advice to the ViiV Healthcare business on how to navigate this rapidly evolving area.
  • Manage and supervise external trade mark counsel and service providers and ensure quality and cost-effectiveness of their work.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, such as business units, legal teams, regulatory agencies, and industry associations.

  • Qualified solicitor or barrister in the UK
  • Demonstrated experience in trade mark and copyright law, preferably in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology sector
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of trade mark and copyright laws and practices in the UK, EU, and other key jurisdictions
  • Ability to provide clear, concise, and pragmatic legal advice in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
