The Position

Accounting Assistants perform clerical accounting work in the maintenance of accounts and accounting records for State agencies.

Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.

The Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) is recruiting for an Accounting Assistant 3 position within the Children’s Mental Hrath Billing Unit, located in Las Vegas. The Billing Unit provides enrollment support and processes medical billing for all Children’s Mental Health programs. This position is responsible for generating applicable reports in the AvatarNX Electronic Health Records system in an accurate and timely manner. This position also creates electronic files for submission to clearing houses or respective insurance companies. Furthermore, this position performs claim reviews, reconciliation, resubmissions, and appeals. Finally, this position monitors and updates spreadsheets and executes quarterly activity analysis in order to recommend appropriate resolutions for unposted claims. The candidate must have strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Candidates should possess skills related to analysis and problem solving. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)

Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of progressively responsible clerical accounting experience which included duties such as responsibility for accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and/or other accounting data; setting up computer spreadsheets to record, track, organize and report data; researching and interpreting financial data to prepare reports and respond to budget and accounts related inquiries; and reconciling accounts; OR one year of experience as an Accounting Assistant II in Nevada State service which included clerical accounting duties as described above; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.

Special Requirements

A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.

This position requires a valid driver’s license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
