Our partners include Faculté Saint-Jean, Red Deer Polytechnic, Keyano College (Fort McMurray) and Northwestern Polytechnic (Grande Prairie). Other master’s programs include other streams within the MN (Leadership, Education, and Research), and the Nursing PhD program with a total graduate student body of 201.The Faculty of Nursing is ranked #1 in Western Canada and #7 in the world (QS World Rankings). The Faculty of Nursing leads transformational research to address complex global health challenges and to meet the health needs of diverse communities.There are 35 Faculty, 92 Academic Teaching Staff (ATS), and 66 other employees (operating and research-funded). The Faculty of Nursing is located primarily in the Edmonton Clinic Health Academy (ECHA).PositionReporting to the Faculty General Manager, and working collaboratively with the Undergraduate Studies leadership team and various service partners across the University, the Manager, Undergraduate Student Services and Operations is responsible for developing, implementing and managing the nursing undergraduate student services team. The successful candidate leads a dynamic team focused on the admissions, progression, retention and success of undergraduate students pursuing a career in the nursing profession. The manager serves as an expert advisor to academic leadership, faculty, staff and/or the general public on undergraduate programs, services, policies and processes.In all facets of this role, this position endeavors to integrate and advance the University’s commitments to equity, diversity and inclusivity. In addition, the manager understands, fulfills, and promotes the health, safety and environmental responsibilities identified in university policy.Duties

  • Clearly communicates strategic objectives to own staff. Works with staff to define operational and short-term action plans that align with these objectives.
  • Assists academic leadership in planning for undergraduate programs and services, including business planning and contributing to the academic plan.
  • Develops proposals for new initiatives and Faculty plans, identifying opportunities and risks through environmental scanning.
  • Recognizes emerging issues, uses data-driven decision-making, and provides situation-sensitive solutions while ensuring compliance with university policies.
  • Investigate systemic issues and mobilize resources to implement changes, challenging the status quo for improvement.
  • Advises leadership on the development and implementation of new programs or services, using key analytics to support decision-making.
  • Oversees Nursing student recruitment processes, collaborating with various partners to ensure admission criteria are met and enrolment targets are achieved.
  • Monitors and adjusts enrolment targets, providing regular briefings and recommendations to leadership.
  • Manages the team by identifying, acquiring, and developing staff, fostering an inclusive and diverse workforce, and supporting continuous learning and performance optimization.
  • Builds and maintains productive relationships with multiple stakeholders, fostering cooperation, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing.
  • Proactively addresses issues, promoting a positive and respectful environment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Undergraduate in a related field (Nursing, Education, Health, Business, etc.) degree is required
  • A minimum of 5 years in student services, advising, admissions, or a related area
  • A strong commitment to customer service excellence
  • Progressive administrative experience
  • Supervisory experience in a union environment, preferably in a post-secondary setting
  • Proven ability to model professional, ethical and collaborative behaviours
  • Extensive knowledge of the University of Alberta’s policies, procedures and operating requirements
  • Experience with planning, implementation and evaluation of student engagement initiatives
  • Excellent computer skills including experience with PeopleSoft and Microsoft Office

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a related field (Nursing, Education, Health, Business, etc.) is preferred
  • Knowledge/experience in curriculum development, teaching & learning (e.g., focus evident in graduate education and/or scholarly achievements) is an asset
