Job Description:Location : Toronto and Hamilton OfficesMetrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario.At Metrolinx, equity, diversity and inclusion are essential to living our values of serving with passion, thinking forward and playing as a team.The HR Generalist serves as a trusted advisor to people leaders in assigned client group and provides advice and solutions on a variety of day-to-day employee and organizational matters. This team brokers advice and works in collaboration with Centres of Excellence (COEs) within the HR division to provide leaders with specialist knowledge & services. The HR Generalist is the primary HR point of contact for People Leaders at the Management level (Team Leads, Supervisors, Managers, and Senior Managers). This requires the HR Generalist to be an integral point for all internal client HR Solutions, with the support of HR COEs.What will I be doing?
- Providing support to leadership at the management level in assigned client group, considering division-specific needs and broader organizational priorities; appropriately delegating and/or escalating leadership requests to the appropriate team within HR based on set criteria
- Working with leaders on employee reclassifications, compassionate transfers, and health reassignment information
- With the support of the HRBP team, implementing HR policies, processes, and programs within client portfolios by communicating, training, coaching, guiding, and ensuring compliance with policies, processes, and programs. Assisting clients in navigating exceptions to resolution by partnering with COEs to find creative solutions to meet business needs while adhering to corporate objectives
- Assisting leaders and providing advice on employee performance management, attendance management, leave management, employee moves, and probationary extensions
- Supporting the HRBP team with engagement initiatives for client groups such as annual and pulse surveys and developing action plans to respond to feedback and other initiatives related to organizational culture and inclusion
- Anticipating people-specific needs and union implications that drive business strategies and provides consultations and available solutions
- Actively fostering the integrated model between the HR Generalist and HRBP teams to ensure seamless service continuity and a client-centric approach through participation in case discussions, control boards, and client update meetings
- Facilitating dialogue and discussion between the business and internal and external providers to assist with prioritization of competing objectives (e.g., runs meetings, focus groups, joint sessions, workshops, etc.)
- Contributing to development of policies, reporting tools, directives, procedures, and program implementation to identify improved methods/techniques related to business activities and functions
- Using existing data to research, review and analyzing various issues, trends, legislative issues, systemic issues, and policy/process concerns
- Supporting the HRBP team with change management and intervention strategies to support major projects and transformational plans that have impact on the business
- Acting as an internal consultant and coach to business leaders, influencing leadership actions in performing HR-related tasks
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
- University degree/college diploma in Human Resources Management or a related discipline
- Demonstrated years of progressively responsible and related generalist experience in Human Resources, including Performance Management, Talent Management, Organization Design, Labour Relations, and Compensation principles as well as policies and related legislation
- Experience working in a unionized environment
- Experience working in the public sector and/or within the transportation industry is an asset
- Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) or Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) designation completed or in progress is an asset.
- Demonstrated, strong functional expertise in all HR disciplines, programs, and practices to provide client service to meet business needs; knowledge of principles, processes and practices of human resources management consulting, client management, relationship management, service management, and understanding of emerging HR trends/issues
- Knowledge of Human Resources legislation (e.g., Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act, Labour Relations Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, etc.) and experience with a unionized environment to interpret and apply collective agreement provisions/articles
- Experience working with HR information systems (HRIS) and demonstrated skills with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) to effectively work with databases to monitor and produce reports/dashboards
