Consider joining the City of Edmonton as a Facility Programmer. In this role, you will utilize your exceptional supervisory skills to manage all aspects of aquatic program development, planning, implementation and evaluation at City of Edmonton Leisure Centres & Recreation Facilities.   • Responsible for scheduling and leading the delivery of aquatic programs in a manner that meets relevant community demands, maximizes available resources and integrates affiliate standards, public health regulations, OH&S legislation, and provincial guidelines
  • Accountable for revenue generation and growing the business through continuous improvement of existing programs and increased programming variety that attracts a broad range of customers
  • Be a facility leader and are responsible for up to 50 direct reports. Facility Programmers are required to maintain current certifications in order to respond to critical and life threatening emergencies. Identify the need for facility-based aquatic programs through continuous improvement of new and existing programs
  • Respond to feedback and identify effective conflict resolution
  • Coordinate and implement facility schedules with all stakeholders and partners through site inspections, incident management and accurate reporting; Ensure program and participant safety and wellness practices are being followed
  • Advocate water safe behaviors and educate internal/external stakeholders through various methods of engagement
  • Management and direct oversight of registered, leader-led and drop-in programs. Including scheduling, budget, equipment, marketing and other related requirements
  • Design, implement and evaluate animation strategies to increase attendance and revenue
  • Develop and implement succession plans for the mentoring and ongoing development of program delivery personnel
  • Ongoing recruitment and performance management of aquatic personnel
  • Respond to emergency situations as needed
  • Other related duties as required

Qualifications

  • Completed 1 year post secondary education in Recreation Administration, Facility Management, Marketing or a related discipline1 year (2080 hours) collective experience as an Aquatic Instructor and Lifeguard
  • Possession of current Lifesaving Society Swim & Lifesaving Instructor Award
  • Possession of current Lifesaving Society Swim Abilities Award (asset)
  • Possession of current Government of Alberta workplace approved Intermediate First Aid & CPR-C or Aquatic Emergency Care (AEC)
  • Possession of current Lifesaving Society Bronze Cross Award or Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Award (National Lifeguard is an asset)
  • All certifications must be kept current according to the certifying organization’s standards

Assets:

  • Proficient within RAMS, Ariba, DETS and google applications
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and motivate staff
  • Ability to think systematically with a long range perspective of problems and situations
  • Ability to recognize emergency situations and respond accordingly
  • Strong networking skills to interact and build relationships to discover the best information/resources and gain support for new strategies and initiatives
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices involved in designing, implementing and evaluating programs
  • Knowledge of the public health, occupational health and safety, construction and provincial operating guidelines related to the operation of an aquatic facility
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, customer service, organization, time management and prioritization skills required

Skills required for success:

  • Proficiency with Google Applications, SAP, DETS and Intelli Manager
