Schneider Electric Digital Power – Protection Application Sales Engineer – Energy Automation

The Schneider Electric Digital Power Business has exciting opportunities to join the UK&I Sales and Marketing team as a Protection Relay Application Engineer

The candidate should ideally possess some knowledge of the engineering fields preferably in protection and automation products. Knowledge of Schneider Electric or competitor’s product portfolios would be helpful, although full product training will be given. The candidate must have an interest in enhancing and developing their skills to progress in what is a vibrant, active, and growing sector.

Protection Relays and RTUs are part of the SE EcoStruxure offer, the candidate will need some understanding of the overarching system architecture and protocols necessary to contribute to the discussion of a complete substation automation system for MV / LV Distribution Networks.

Support and training will be provided to enhance the applicant’s skills in these areas as necessary. We are looking for candidates who can analyze and understand customers’ needs and work as key team members to help define and prescribe a potential solution to those needs.

Your mission:

You will be a key member of the Sales and Marketing team, requiring sufficient product and application knowledge to help the client understand the best SE products, architecture, and configuration needed to match their requirements. You will define the best-fit products and define those products to the client by creating or modifying customer specifications. The primary aim is to work as part of a team and further develop strong and lasting relationships with the user to ensure continued pull-through.

Your responsibilities:

  • Contribute to achieving annual sales targets with technical product support,
  • Leads Protection and Automation design to develop and/or review protective relay settings, relay settings basis, IED data maps, and SCADA points list.
  • Performs design studies and demonstrate a good working knowledge of relay protections involving logic diagrams, calculations report, relay database management, and coordination studies.
  • Continues to learn and remains current on power distribution protection applications, departmental design guides, standards, systems, and applicable engineering codes,
  • Basic commercial awareness provides feedback to Salespeople to identify new opportunities
  • Provide customers with access to application support and technical advice during pre-sales and after-sales discussions by involving the relevant support teams, while ‘’owning’’ the problem and involving Sales Management when necessary.
  • Use provided professional presentations or products to demonstrate to customers and channel partners a broad product knowledge coverage to clients and to promote the expertise of Schneider.
  • Develop and maintain a detailed understanding of electric power systems and how to protect, monitor, and control the power system.
  • Leverage technical knowledge and expertise available from the wider team to grow your knowledge.
  • Built Synergy with team members and other Schneider Business Units,
  • Maintains good working relationships with internal groups that support projects such as other engineering disciplines, Drafting, Project Management, etc.

Qualifications

Your background:

  • Electrical / System Engineer (Preferable), HNC or equivalent as a minimum
  • Understanding of basic Protection & Control design concepts including one-lines, three-lines, schematics, wiring, etc.
  • Self-motivated and driven.
  • Synergy with team members and other Schneider Business Units
  • Organised and able to work to deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and strong communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the predominant protection schemes and philosophies 
  • Strong desire to learn and progress within the wider Schneider Electric business
