Background
UN Women, the UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women has been created to accelerate up the process of meeting the needs of women and girls across the world. UN Women supports the UN Member States as they set global standards for achieving gender equality and works with governments and civil society to design laws, policies, programs and services needed to ensure that the standards are effectively implemented and truly benefit women and girls worldwide. Considering that gender equality is at the core of its humanitarian and development work and the importance of adhering to strengthening the capacities of civil society organizations (CSOs), UN Women is intending to support CSO platform , created by the Network[1] of CSOs “Life Free of Violence” and managed by NGO “Gender and Development”. This platform supports the CSOs and Network members in building and strengthening their capacities accessing available materials and documents online (information on legislation, modules on prevention of violence against women and girls etc.) and utilizing them in their professional service provision.
Considering the abovementioned objective, UN Women is seeking a National Communication Specialist to help in maintaining the CSOs platform.
Goal and objectives:
- The overall goal of the proposed consultancy is to support the domain of CSO , including collecting, updating and posting the information on legislation, modules on preventing violence against women and girls; cooperating with Network members; and ensuring its continuous operation.
- Network was created in 2022 within the frame of the EU/UN Spotlight Initiative to end violence against women and girls. Currently, more than 50 organizations are members of this Network. The network has its Coordination body, Expert Council and Secretariat managed by Gender and Development NGO.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Under the supervision of the UN Women Country Programme Manager/Head of Office, and in close collaboration with the NGO “Gender and Development” and Network members, the National Communication Specialist will perform the following tasks, that include but are not limited to the following:
- Interact with the responsible person from the Network “Life Free of Violence” for timely collection and processing of information related to their activities and posting it in the online platform.
- Review the existing documents (on the platform) on prevention of violence against women and girls and enriching the platform after receiving the Expert group’s recommendations.
- Share the materials with the Coordination and Expert Councils to get their feedback, place high quality information and materials on the platform after consulting with Councils’ members.
- Upload the materials in two languages (Russian and Tajik) in the format of brochure, booklet, leaflet, videos, and other types of publication easily accessible and comprehensible for the platform’s followers.
- Update online content of the platform on successful initiatives, practices, and approaches on weekly basis.
- Participate at Network events and prepare press and post-releases about those activities in Russian, English and Tajik languages.
- Participate in information campaigns and events conducted by Network members.
- Promote the platform through different social networks to get more users and clients who could benefit from the available resources.
- Perform other duties upon the request.
Required Skills and Experience
Education:
- University degree in social science, journalism, communications, or other fields relevant to the requirements of the assignment.
- Good knowledge of MS Office, Corel Draw and Photoshop is an asset.
Working Experience:
- At least 3 years of experience in public relations (PR) and communications, media, with a specific focus on women’s rights and gender equality.
- Good oral and written communication and editorial skills, with proven ability to produce content for online platforms and social media.
- Prior experience in international organizations, NGOs, UN Agencies.
- Good knowledge of the CSO Network activities.
Knowledge of languages:
- Fluent in Tajik and Russian languages (written and oral); knowledge of English is an asset.
