Your goal in this position is to manage the design, acquisition, installation, documentation,
implementation, operation, support, and maintenance of the Hospital data communications networks, including its various components such as equipment, cabling, and software. You will have the ability to function independently as well as collaboratively with assigned organizations and team members. You have excellent organizational skills and are able to work in a fast-paced environment with the flexibility to adjust/adapt work schedules to meet the needs of organizations serviced. You have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. This position supports the Hospital’s academic mandate by advancing care through teaching and learning and/or transforming care through research and innovation. This position contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and families.On a practical level, you will

  • Continually improve the networks by monitoring and evaluating network performance issues including availability, utilization, throughput and latency; planning and executing the selection, installation, configuration, and testing of equipment; defining network policies and procedures; establishing connections and firewalls.
  • Develop and maintain detailed network diagrams, configuration files, and documentation related to network architecture, processes, and troubleshooting procedures. Ensure all documentation is up-to-date and accessible.
  • Install, test, configure, monitor and support all network hardware and equipment, including network backbone, core and edge switches, routers, Wi-Fi, IDS/IPS, load balancers, network monitoring services, QOS for VOIP.
  • Setup and maintain IP addresses and IP design, name resolutions (DNS), VPN tunnels, network routing, VLANs, Firewall rules and policies.
  • Secures the networks by developing and implementing network access, monitoring, control, and evaluation systems; maintaining documentation.
  • Maintains inventory of equipment and parts as well as documentation of configurations, standards and vendor activities.
  • Design networks, and to specify, acquire, test, configure, and install their components (including hardware, software, and cabling), so as to implement networks as designed;
  • Work co-operatively with staff of Hospital service departments and outside contractors to ensure the provision and maintenance of adequate and appropriate physical facilities (including equipment sites, power supplies, etc) to support the network
  • Works co-operatively with other Hospital staff and with suppliers of other systems to ensure that Hospital computer systems are compatible with the Hospital networks, and vice versa.
  • Educates, trains, and supports other Digital Health staff to enable them to operate, support, and maintain the network.
  • Shares on-call responsibility for computer systems throughout the Hospital.
  • Works safely in accordance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act.

Qualifications

  • BSc in Computer Networking, Engineering or equivalent
  • Certified Network Engineer designation an asset.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience designing, installing, supporting and maintaining enterprise wireless, wired and wide area data communications networks
  • Minimum 5 years troubleshooting and resolving mission-critical network service issues either unguided or in conjunction with vendor support.
  • Proficiency with managing Palo Alto firewalls, intrusion prevention and perimeter security controls is desired
  • Recent experience with Extreme Networks wired networks is preferred
  • Experience with Aruba wireless network technology preferred
  • Experience with Palo Alto Networks firewalls preferred
  • Bilingualism in French/English an asset
