University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.Please see below for a detailed job description for the role.Main duties of the jobThe Microbiology and Virology department are offering an exciting opportunity for a permanent Senior Biomedical Scientist to be part of the Microbiology IT team to oversee and manage the ongoing changes relating to our newly implemented network LIMS.UHS Pathology has recently implemented and gone live with a new LIMS, Clinisys WinPath Enterprise. We have identified an ongoing need for a permanent role to continue the with LIMS build and testing within the Microbiology domain of the LIMS as other sites within the network go live.Attached you will find the person specification document which provides more detail about the essential and desirable skills and experience needed for this role. You will be working alongside seniors members within the Microbiology and Virology department, UHS Pathology and the Wider Southern Counties Pathology Teams.The Microbiology and Virology department and University Hospital Southampton is a regional, supra-regional and national specialist service provider, processing over 800,000 specimens per annum and employee over 90 staff.It provides a comprehensive 7 day service covering bacteriology, mycobacteriology, mycology, virology, serology and parasitology, and has a well-equipped molecular facility. As a section lead, you will be required to work shifts on a 24/7 rota system, which includes weekend, nights and bank holiday working.The Laboratory is UKAS accredited to ISO 15189. There is a wide range of equipment throughout the department including MALDI-TOF, SediMAX, BD MGIT, Serosep Enteric-bio, GeneXpert, Diasorin Liaison, Qiagen extraction and post elution PCR platforms, ABI7500 real time PCR platforms, Kingfisher PCR extraction and Thermo Quant studio PCR.Key Responsibilities:You will: Be involved in the management, prioritisation and implementation of changes relating to the new Laboratory Information System (LIMS). Ensure that any changes to the LIMS adheres to the local governance procedures in place. Be Line manager of other staff within the department. Lead on all aspects of quality management in a section of the laboratory, including implementation of new methods. Work with and lead on verification and implementation projects for new tests and equipment within your section, including new LIMS. Work alongside and with other senior BMSs to provide a high level of Microbiological analysis to provide patients with the highest level of diagnosis and treatment. Supervise and train inexperienced BMS, trainee BMS or MLA staff and assist in training plans. Communicate and liaise with other IT and laboratory leads within UHS Pathology and Southern Counties pathology regarding Change control processed related to the LIMS.Key Attributes: A motivated, experienced, and enthusiastic HCPC registered Specialist Biomedical Scientist Section Lead. A specialist knowledge of Medical Microbiology or Virology and Clinisys WinPath Able to communicate well with staff in the department and service users.
