More than 300 employees based in Ecully and in the regions, meet the needs of farmers and the challenges of French agriculture.RESPONSIBILITIESAs a breeding agronomist located in Beauce-la-Romaine (France), you are responsible for:

  • The execution of trial protocols that relate to the region of focus.;
  • Establishing, maintaining, and evaluating oilseed (Brassica napus) breeding trials in a specific region for the purpose of delivering high quality data for statistical analysis and selection with the goal of developing and registering new Winter Oilseedrape hybrids for the European Market;
  • Small plot field trial management from seeding to harvest, including activities such as trialing location identification, seedbed preparation, seeding, scouting, in-crop pesticide applications, pest (insect and disease) identification & monitoring, phenotypic data collection throughout the season, harvesting, and data reporting;
  • Managing all resources in the region, with the goal of achieving all breeding objectives and effective operation of the program. This includes facility operation & management, equipment maintenance, inventory management, seasonal staff hiring & supervision, as well as participating in budget planning for the region;
  • Ensuring all activities are being performed safely and responsibly by participating in the local EHS program. This will include training of new employees and contributing to the safety culture within the team;
  • Executing seed quality analysis (NIR) and liaise with lab to ensure accurate seed quality;
  • Supporting QA/QMS in activities as required by the breeding program;
  • Participation in the EMEA breeding seed setup to ensure all protocol are completed and ready for planting in a timely fashion;
  • Establishing and maintaining industry presence and ensuring that BASF is up to date on current industry activities by participating in meetings and establishing contacts with external parties (growers, landlords, members of other Breeding institutions and 3rd parties, various equipment service providers);

QUALIFICATIONSEducation

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree or diploma in agriculture or related discipline.

Experience

  • Experience in plant breeding, genetics, canola agronomy, canola botany, pollen flow, genetic purity, and conducting research trials using statistical design and analysis are all assets;
  • Experience operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting tractors, sprayers, plot combines, and other related small plot equipment an asset;
  • Experience loading, unloading, and trailering equipment an asset.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Capacity to speak French (fluent level) and English is a plus;
  • Demonstrate problem solving skills and ability to be flexible and modify plans as required to minimize impact on data and production as situations arise;
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team, either as a member or as a supervisor of temporary employees.
