MSAT Device Technologist – PermanentClosing Date for Applications – 1st November (COB)This is a site-based role at Barnard CastleGSK Barnard Castle is a key secondary manufacturing site and has invested heavily in industry 4.0 state of the art, bespoke equipment to support sustained new product introductions and volume increases, and as a key supplier of some of GSK’s blockbuster products, the site contributes revenues of ~$2Bn annually.Responsible for the completion of device activity at GSC manufacturing sites and External supply sites that produce sterile, intranasal and dermatological pharmaceutical products in devices. This is inclusive of the introduction of new products into parenteral devices, support for change control activities and for technical device issues arising at sites. - Be responsible for device assembly operation(s) where applicable, work in teams to understand the relationship between measurement and impact of variability in components and intermediates, environmental conditions, and equipment conditions.
- Work closely with technical, engineering, production, and quality to deliver New Product Introduction project activity and ensure that day to day technical issues are resolved, including customer complaints. Be part of the first response team in investigating device and equipment issues on site.
- Awareness of the Medical Device Directive and an understanding of assessment tools such as TRA, CPP, CQAs.
- Actively drive the improvement of unit operation process capability and batch yields. Specifically, be accountable for Cost of Goods and Cost of Waste improvements.
- Work collaboratively with Research & Development and key equipment and component suppliers to introduce new devices and develop improvements to existing devices. Be comfortable working with individuals at a variety of levels both within and external to GSK.
- Investigate alternative new technologies for plant/equipment efficiency improvements and use technical expertise to influence equipment strategy to meet future site goals.
Why you?Qualifications & Skills:We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
- HNC + industry experience/ Degree level in an Engineering, Science or equivalent discipline.
- Proficient in use of technology to communicate and provide reports and analysis of data.
- Basic knowledge of materials and major differences in the manufacturing methods of moulded components e.g. polymers, pigments and the various moulding techniques.
- Good understanding of H,S & E policies & requirements.
- Competent knowledge of existing supply base and of the industry in general as a source of new suppliers or specialist skills.
- Competent understanding of Validation techniques and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills:If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:
- Relevant range of contacts within GSK Group to ensure knowledge of company technologies, expertise and competencies are utilised where appropriate.
- Some awareness of global packaging technologies and the interface with device technologies.
- Basic understanding of the pharmaceutical regulatory environment plus the specific additional legislation needs for medical devices e.g. EC ‘CE’ marking, FDA Medical Device guidance.
- Basic understanding of the pharmaceutical development activities and processes adopted by R & D relating to product development, NPS and Technology Transfer.
- Good appreciation of pharmaceutical GMP, pre-approval inspection readiness and Company regulatory requirements.
- Good understanding to enable management of metrology & plastics testing techniques & procedures and GSK Specification & Drawing systems.
