If so our Chalk River location is looking for a Manager, RP (Radiation Protection) Equipment Services to maintain and calibrate portable RP instrumentation, inspect and test respiratory protection, respiratory fit testing, and the preparation and testing of air filtration media.   • Setting objectives, completing performance reviews, and following the disciplinary process for all direct reports within the line.
  • Collaborating with CNL union representatives to influence positive employee relations, managing any correspondence and issues raised for staff with the line.
  • Setting and implementing development plans for direct reports.
  • Ensuring the appropriate deployment of human resources to achieve goals.
  • Selecting and approving new hires for the department and conducting terminations within due process.
  • Developing and managing the budget for their business line.
  • Ensuring staff are trained and qualified for their role.
  • Ensuring the compliant and consistent implementation of CNL Program requirements across the Equipment Services team.
  • Ensuring safety-based observations are performed to maintain high safety standards within the team.
  • Maintaining open and clear communications with relevant Functional Support Managers, facilitating staff to engage in program change initiatives.
  • Implementing improvement initiatives and championing continuous improvement.
  • Implementing high standards in Quality Assurance and customer service.
  • Maintaining open and clear communications with the management and leadership across CNL to ensure objectives and milestones are met.
  • Providing sufficient and competent RP resources to support the delivery of the missions across CNL.
  • Engaging in RP departmental initiatives to recruit, train and retain staff.
  • Working collaboratively in a team environment or influencing others to work together effectively to achieve shared goals.
  • Initiating and supporting collaboration across organizational boundaries.
  • Constructively working with others to reach shared objectives or settle differences through mutual concessions.
  • Acting to promote commitment to a team, task, or shared goal, allowing the group to take responsibility for its goals.
  • Encouraging staff to propose innovative solutions to RP challenges.
  • Providing expert advice and guidance on important technical RP equipment matters to senior, line and facility management and external clients.
  • Raising highly complex compliance and quality issues to the Director, Corporate RP.
  • Interfacing with CNL project teams is required to ensure consistent and effective implementation of compliance requirements.
  • Arranging department meetings, staff meetings and meetings with internal groups to develop strategies to deliver services and discussing events or adverse trends.
  • Writing, reviewing, and approving RP documents that may have a variety of audiences.
  • Taking responsibility for managing an operating budget commensurate with the project baseline, which includes an equipment/materials component, securing funding and managing costs.
  • Providing oversight of the training of staff within the team, ensuring staff are appropriately assessed prior to qualification.

  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for:

  • Education
  • Graduation from a recognized college specializing in electronics technology or similar discipline in applied sciences, or a university degree in applied sciences. Alternative education and experience may be approved by the Corporate Director, Radiation Protection.
  • Experience
  • Experience leading and managing a team of staff with varying levels of experience, education, and knowledge of technical expertise.
  • Five (5) years of experience managing customer service programs in a technical discipline, including two years’ of direct supervisory experience.
  • Experience in technical or analytical laboratory environments which adhere to regulations, standards and/or guidelines.
  • Experience in leading and managing change in commercial and/or industrial environments.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Proven management and leadership skills, and the ability to operate in a multi-discipline functional style organization and business-like manner. Skills required include, but are not limited to fair treatment, planning, coaching, mentoring, training, performance assessment and conflict resolution.
  • Strong planning, technical and administration skills to support day-to-day operations and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Ability to organize and co-ordinate activities of self and others to achieve individual/process unit targets.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written, and the ability to communicate highly complex issues to a wide range of internal and external customers with a varying degree of knowledge.
  • Demonstrates sound judgment and possesses a keen sense of responsibility.
  • Reliable and thorough in carrying out duties and accepts responsibility for technical validity of own and those of their direct reports work.
  • Ability to incorporate capabilities into day-to-day operations including customer service, communication, teamwork, initiative/self-management, accountability, and flexibility/adaptability.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with colleagues, RP staff members and customers at various levels both within CNL and externally.
  • Demonstrates sound knowledge and understanding of CNL Radiation Protection, OSH and QA program requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of CNL’s Management system and interfaces between radiation protection and other functional areas, groups, and departments.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
  • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat’s “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”

Working Conditions:

  • Visual concentration is required for drafting and reviewing reports, procedures and other documents.
  • Walking or standing for extended periods of time.
  • Requirement to use personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to resolve multiple challenges in a project-driven environment.
  • Ability to work in an office environment and to perform site walk-downs.
  • Work in adverse weather, including rain and snow.
  • Environments may include hazards such as noise, chemical use, radiation, and/or contamination, but they are not limited to these.
  • It is mobile and able to navigate effectively on uneven surfaces.
  • Capable of travel within Canada and abroad to visit other CNL sites and industry benchmarking and consultation.
