We are looking for a Senior Test Engineer who will work within a community of multi-skilled teams responsible for leading testing across multiple platforms, providing direction and task management of test engineers. This role will lead and be responsible for the creation of technical artefacts to deliver team objectives that are aligned to engineering principles and the architectural strategy.As a Test Engineer you will create the Test Strategy in conjunction with your Lead Test Engineer and will be responsible for the design and scope of testing within the delivery whilst taking an ‘automation first’ approach to testing where possible. You will be responsible for a team of test engineers for whom you will manage daily work allocations while reporting/escalating any issues or risks raised by the team.This is a ‘hands on’ role and so it is expected that 50% of your time will be devoted to the design, writing and execution of test scripts both manually and through automation.You will also assume line management responsibility for a small number of more junior Test engineers.The role sits within the UHS Programme of work which forms part of the wider Retail Products CIO. The focus of the programme is to migrate products e.g. ISA’s, Accounts etc. from the legacy Unisys platform onto the SAP Core Banking Platform where they will be mapped to new products.In doing so, we will be able to provide our members with a new range of products whilst modernising our technology estate.At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible. You can also find out more about our approach to .If we receive a high volume of relevant applications, we may close the advert earlier than the advertised date, so please apply as soon as you can.What you’ll be doingFrom producing the Test Strategy and designing the Test Approach, you’ll oversee a team of test engineers tasked with ensuring the correct scope and types of testing are successfully executed for each of the UHS Product Migrations to SAP.You will work closely with the Product Owner and Business Design functions as well as the development engineers to create the correct scope and depth of testing for each delivery.You will need to be able to provide Daily Status Reports to stakeholders that are clear and concise whilst being able to communicate risks and their mitigations.There will be many challenges, not least timelines for delivery, and so the ability to be hands on, to implement automation and to drive efficiency will be essential.About youAs a Test Engineer you should be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Excellent communication skills. The ability to communicate at all levels, and translate technical explanations to a range of stakeholders building understanding and trust
  • Extensive experience of managing teams effectively, at both junior and senior levels in a matrix management environment
  • The ability to understand the business impact of technical changes and be comfortable making risk assessments

You will also require the following skills:

  • Worked in the financial sector for part of your career to date in banking.
  • DevOps principles, practices and tools such as
  • Test Driven Development (TDD)
  • Behaviour and Feature Driven Development (BDD, FDD)
  • Technical expertise including:
  • Coding ability knowledge (e.g. Java, Javascript, Python, C#, Typescript) to support the creation and maintenance of automation frameworks
  • Knowledge of databases and expertise in structured querying to support ETL testing.
  • Tools such as Selenium, SOAP UI/Ready AP, ARD, Test Modeller, JIRA, TFS, GIT, Cucumber
