Job description
Aplin has partnered with a large defense contractor to hire a Lead Project Controller. In this role you will oversee project control processes for a small project and support Project Manager’s on bigger projects. You may be responsible for supervising up to five staff members and are expected to work independently on complex tasks.Responsibilities:
- Project Reporting & Scheduling: Handle advanced reporting and scheduling for projects.
- Problem Solving: Apply problem-solving skills based on prior experience to overcome challenges.
- Project Control Leadership: Lead project control processes for small projects or parts of larger ones (e.g., work packages).
- Lifecycle Management: Oversee project control throughout the project’s lifecycle, ensuring customer needs are met, and financial goals are achieved.
- Risk Management: Identify and manage risks using appropriate methods (predictive or agile) and ensure realistic plans are in place.
- Collaboration & Stakeholder Management: Work with stakeholders to set project control strategies, monitor progress, and manage communication.
- Knowledge Sharing: Provide advice from internal and external sources to help meet project goals and foster learning within the team.
- Team Leadership: Supervise up to five team members, provide technical support, and ensure project control practices are effective.
- Safety Responsibilities: Promote high safety standards by following health, safety, and environmental policies. Encourage the team to report safety issues and prioritize corrective actions.
- Budget Management: Manage budgets for assigned projects and team responsibilities.
Qualifications:
- University degree or equivalent practical experience.
- PM qualifications such as APM Project Management Qualification (or equivalent).
- Strong understanding of project control tools, processes, and governance practices (e.g., Integrated Baseline Reviews).
- Familiarity with the business environment, including customers, markets, and strategic priorities.
- Proven ability to build relationships and negotiate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Train and develop team members, monitor their performance, and contribute to their growth.
- Apply problem-solving techniques to various situations, adapting to both current and new business environments.
- Handle sensitive discussions diplomatically and collaborate across teams.
