CBC/Radio-Canada is also one of the largest transmission networks around the world; we operate more than 700 radio services and 26 over the air DTV services throughout Canada. All these services are distributed on more than 500 transmission sites. CBC/Radio-Canada is immediately looking for a technical senior advisor to lead a team of highly qualified project leads.This position requires an interesting mix of leadership and expertise with the authority to make key decisions under the guidance and collaboration of senior management across multiple stakeholders. This is a full-time permanent position, and the successful incumbent could be based anywhere in Canada where we have a studio and/or a transmission base, with occasional travel to various other sites nationally.What’s in it for you?Challenges. As our new Technical Senior Advisor, you will:

  • Be responsible for equipment interoperability across transmission systems, providing technical advice and insight on high-level architecture and bring those to the standard committee.
  • Be the reference for the engineering group on our transmission infrastructure, you’ll need to understand how we do AM, FM, DTV and distribute our feeds throughout Canada.
  • You’ll be also the reference to onboard new candidate in the project lead in the Transmission & Distribution Engineering team.
  • Design high-level, innovative and practical solutions to complex problems with a national scope, working closely with the Architecture team. These large-scale projects will have a significant impact on operations and maintenance across the Corporation. You’ll need to be a reference for the group for architecture guidelines, standards and recommendations.
  • The capital projects portfolio is overseen by the PMO (Project Management Office). You’ll need to understand and facilitate project applicable processes throughout their lifecycle (Gating, use of contingency, closure, etc.).
  • Liaise with clients and peers to define necessary requirements, while identifying opportunities to optimize facilities and their capacities.
  • Establish and monitor timelines and budgets for capital project programs nationally, ensuring that objectives are clear and achieved.
  • Oversee the entire procurement process, providing advice and direction on technology choices; act as the go-to resource when technical evaluation criteria are drafted for bid solicitations.
  • Actively participate in strategic planning for a platform or project portfolio, providing expert advice on costs, timelines and feasibility of capital requirements.
  • Help draft, edit and publish requisitions for high-profile and transformation projects.
  • Act as a technical expert during major procurement processes, presenting these initiatives to senior leadership.
  • Help improve TCP/IP knowledge across the Transmission & Distribution team. You’ll need to understand our encoding & distribution platform, TSL/STL design and any other relevant matter to TCP/IP in order to design the next generation systems for Transmission.
  • Create system or platform concept proposals for review by our business partners.
  • Proactively contribute to creating a collaborative, efficient and agile work environment, while helping develop and maintain documentation.
  • Identify opportunities for improving our workflows and suggest changes focused on increasing team effectiveness.
  • Adhere, understand and support our strategic plan on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI).

What you bring:

  • 3 years’ experience in project management, specifically with the Agile methodology
  • 1 year experience in a leadership position and the mobilization of various technical resources
  • Experience in delivery of important and highly complex technological projects
  • Bachelor’s degree in Applied Science or Engineering, or a Diploma in Applied Science and Technology
  • Membership, or eligibility to become a member, of a provincial Engineering Association (PEO, OIQ, … etc.) is an asset.
  • Strong, influential and clear communication skills, in English and French, considered a strong asset.
  • High level of professionalism and strong work ethics
  • Expertise on various transmission technologies: AM, FM & DTV transmitters, combiners, antennas, cabling infrastructure, tower, generators, satellite, building and HVAC infrastructure…
  • Expertise on various production and network technologies: wireless microphones, IFBs, Dejero & Live U production devices, 5G broadcast network, basic knowledge on TCP/IP network and SMPTE 2110 MoIP is a great advantage.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with colleagues, management and industry partners.
  • Ability to make complex technical decisions in order to define complex projects
  • On those complex projects, we are looking for someone who has the ability to delegate tasks to other project leads until successful completion of the project.
  • Ability to mobilize and adapt to new or conflicting priorities quickly.
  • Ability to travel to different CBC locations across the country to oversee different phases of projects. (A valid Canadian driver’s license is mandatory)
