About the roleThis is a hands-on position where you will need to use your analytical skills to find solutions to business problems and improve our customers’ experience. This could include personalised communications for customers, improving our stock management models, better marketing effectiveness, maximising customer lifetime value and reducing customer churn.On any day you could be building models in the cloud for automation of decision-making across the business or optimising processes for key business objectives, defining project expectations with internal or external stakeholders, or conducting deep-dive exploratory analysis to inform strategic decision-making and supporting more junior colleagues through their development in these areas. Throughout your work you would keep our customers as the focus of all analysis.You will proactively take ownership of problems and produce brilliant work which supports the teams’ objectives. To support this, there’s a strong emphasis on learning and development time with each team member having allocated time for investigating a specific area of data of interest to them. This role also involves providing guidance for more junior colleagues.You will be responsible for
- Responsible for identifying, building, validating, optimising and managing complex models and data pipelines
- Responsible for the data science lifecycle of your products including deployment into production, testing, CICD, documentation and security considerations – Generating and delivering new opportunities to improve customer experience via Data Science
- Be the expert in an area and use it to support and grow the whole team – e.g. specific models, Azure environment, PySpark code optimisation
- Coaching and mentoring junior colleagues and peers in Data Science practices
- Integration and analysis of diverse data from multiple sources using statistical methods to identify trends, expose new opportunities, and answer ongoing business questions
- Champion continuous improvement within the team by helping others to identify their development areas as well as achieving your own important learning plan
- Continuously look for innovative ways to improve our products
- Good understanding and use of internal and external datasets and share this knowledge openly
- Promote the importance of data openly across the company
- Encourage collaboration and communication between teams across the delivery tribes, and promote a culture of giving, receiving and adapting due to feedback throughout the chapter
- Identify resolution paths and possible opportunities to solve unstructured problems and articulate specific research questions to form analytics project ideas and project plans to delivery
- Take responsibility for decisions that you make within your projects and able to clearly explain your reasoning
You will need
- Ability to proactively reframe ambiguous business questions, define and execute hypothesis-driven analysis to address business questions, issues, and opportunities using more complex statistical concepts and can derive a project plan to deliver a product that resolves the business question
- SQL and Python coding skills using software development principles
- Database experience and good knowledge of combining internal and external data sources together for modelling
- Advanced knowledge in statistical modelling methods – predictive modelling, trend analysis, unsupervised models etc
- Can clearly articulate ideas with non-technical language and present a simple story to a wide audience
- Demonstrate brilliant listening skills to understand and influence the needs of your stakeholders and customers
- Deploying DS models in the cloud environment (Azure preferred) desirable
- PySpark coding skills desirable
