Organizational Setting
Belize aims to enhance its food control system, and to support this effort, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is facilitating a Food Control System Assessment in collaboration with the relevant competent authorities in Belize.
- FAO in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) developed a guide entitled, “Rethinking our food systems: A guide for multi-stakeholder collaboration”. This guide provides support to anyone interested or involved in convening, implementing, facilitating or supporting a multistakeholder initiative that contributes to sustainable agrifood systems transformation.
- To support the Food Control System Assessment in Belize, FAO aims to implement the recommendations of the guide. It plans to capture all relevant agrifood systems stakeholders through a systematic stakeholder analysis, through a systems lens to include all relevant stakeholders beyond the control authorities, who will benefit from this assessment. It would help for the effective engagement with stakeholders, for buy-in and for good understanding of challenges and needs within the wider agrifood systems, that will enhance the quality of the assessment. It could also support the ongoing communication with relevant stakeholders even after the completion of the assessment.
Reporting Lines
Under the overall supervision of the FAO R in Belize, under the close technical supervision of the Agribusiness Officer in FAO Rome, and in collaboration with the Food Safety Officer in HQ Rome, coordinating the Food Control System Assessment in Belize, and with the FAO technical team in Belize.
Technical Focus
- The specialist will carry out a thorough agrifood systems stakeholder analysis in the country, engaging with stakeholders associated with agrifood systems in Belize, with the final aim to ensure good understanding of challenges and needs within the wider agrifood systems. The incumbent`s tasks will include the following activities:
Tasks and responsibilities
- Identify categories of agrifood systems stakeholders in Belize based on the publication Rethinking our food systems: a guide for multi-stakeholder collaboration
- Identify all key agrifood systems stakeholders of Belize, with a particular emphasis on those involved in the national food control system, to inform and enhance the national food control system assessment process in the country.
- Create a stakeholder map that categorizes the stakeholders and create a database of those stakeholders
- Conduct a stakeholder survey to collect a preliminary understanding of the challenges and needs of the wider agrifood systems in Belize which can guide the inception workshop with the related stakeholders
- Conduct an analysis of the stakeholders based on broader objectives of FAO and national policies
- Prepare a draft report followed by three series of reviews, leading to final comprehensive report, based on the findings from stakeholder analysis
- Contribute to the final project report, as required
- Support with other relevant activities specifically organization of inception workshop and final workshop
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
- University degree in Food Safety, Agri Business, Food Systems or equivalent
- 3 years of relevant experience in Agri Food Systems
- Working knowledge of English
- National of Belize
