The Growth Company’s (GC) Employment team have an exciting new opportunity for a Business Advisor to deliver high quality start-up advice and assistance across Nottinghamshire to people currently on the Restart scheme who wish to consider self-employment as an option. The role will assess the needs of eligible start-up businesses and facilitate support and links to external specialist support. These activities will include handling enquiries from first viability checks through to the development of business plans and cash flow forecasts to the implementation of ongoing support and exit evaluation.Within the Restart Scheme, you will be part of a government initiative that provides personalised support for up to 12 months to help people find a job in their local area and help overcome any challenges that might be standing in the way of employment.We help to make a lasting difference to the lives of people throughout the North of England and beyond, by supporting individuals to gain meaningful employment.Our highly skilled advisers and keyworkers work with a range of individuals; from people who have found themselves recently out of work, to those with complex barriers such as physical disabilities, mental ill-health, and debt.Based Mansfield with travel to Worksop and Newark.Key Responsibilities:

  • The Advisor’s primary responsibility is to ensure that the Restart Programme service is delivered in order to produce the maximum impact in terms of assisting start-ups to reach their full potential, which will subsequently help the client from unemployment into self-employment.
  • Handling enquiries via, phone and email, initially assessing the potential of start-ups using appropriate tools, processes and systems where required.
  • Designing, organising, and delivering a number of workshops such as enterprise coaching and business planning.
  • Make sure those services identified as appropriate for start-up clients are personally introduced.
  • Actively monitor the progress and survival of start-ups.
  • Work with the core Programme teams, the Growth Start-Up Manager and start-up team and other internal teams to ensure clients have a seamless journey through the Group’s Enterprise programmes.
  • Work in conjunction with other delivery teams such as Start Up Now and the Business Growth Hub to ensure that other expertise is brought in to assist eligible start-up companies to develop as necessary.
  • Ensure all administration is completed in timely manner against deadlines and is checked for accuracy.

About you:

  • Account and Project management skills.
  • Presentation skills both written and oral.
  • Great Communication and networking skills.
  • Excellent planning, organisational and administrative skills.
  • Well-developed IT skills, including an understanding of computerised management information systems, spreadsheets, diary management, and e-mail.
  • Proven critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Have and develop up-to-date Sector and market knowledge.
  • Ability to identify opportunities and to be innovative.

Skills Required:

  • Understanding and experience of using project management techniques.
  • Experience/knowledge of either setting up a business or supported others to do so.
  • Able to understand providing business advice in a start-up setting.
  • Ability to put together and understand a cash flow forecast.
  • Knowledge of the benefits system and various welfare to work programmes.
  • Wide ranging business experience in the private sector, particularly in a start-up business.
  • Proven track record in managing the range of business issues.
  • Experience of starting a business or working as a manager in a start-up team.
  • Proven track record in working effectively in a professional team.
