Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland.Do you want to play a leading role in reducing the risk of flooding to homes and businesses across Scotland and improving the quality of our rivers and coastal shores?We are looking for someone to join the Flooding Team an Assistant Catchment Planner within the Environmental, Planning and Assurance (EPA) directorate.Your primary role will be to support Catchment Planners with promoting flooding projects in Unifier and then supporting the project team through the ‘Plan’ stage of delivery, as well as proactive planning of Scotland’s wastewater catchments for the future.Flooding projects can vary in scope, from large-scale sewer upgrade schemes to improvements at a single CSO or customer property, and from city-wide strategic partnerships exploring blue/green infrastructure (BGI) in urbanised areas to testing the applicability of new technology.What you’ll doYou will work closely with internal stakeholders across the Flooding Team including colleagues in Flooding Investigations Team, Flooding Solutions Team as well as colleagues across other Scottish Water teams such as Wastewater Operations, Asset Planning and Environmental Regulation.You will collaborate with external stakeholders including consultants, local authorities, and other technical specialists to support the Catchment Planner in progressing flooding projects. You will also provide administrative support across the flooding programme and will have the opportunity to identify and take the lead on business improvements within the flooding team.As we work towards SR27, there will be a greater focus on surface water management and blue/green infrastructure and it is anticipated the successful candidate will support our aims to increase uptake and installation across the country. The role will also involve assessing development applications for a designated area which you will take ownership of and will involve building strong relationships with colleagues in Development Services.This role offers hybrid working, so you can be based anywhere in Scotland as long as you’re within commuting distance of one of our main office hubs, such as Edinburgh, Stepps, Dundee, or Inverness. However, you will be required to occasionally work from offices within the central belt in addition to site visits to project locations across Scotland. A full UK driving licence is needed.What you’ll needWe are looking for someone who can collaborate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders. You should be analytical, organised, and detail-oriented, with a strong commitment to making evidence-based decisions. A passion for delivering outstanding customer service is essential, along with prior experience in the water industry.A solid understanding of wastewater networks and GIS is crucial, as is the ability to create clear and engaging written reports and presentations. Knowledge of surface water management and blue-green infrastructure will also be key to your success in this role.Experience with community and customer engagement would be a valuable addition, as would programme or project management expertise. If you’re new to Scottish Water, you’ll join us on a starting salary of £33,560.
