Our Whiteshell Laboratories (WL) location is looking for a Manager Business Strategy to develop and implement an economic development plan for the WL site. Can you see yourself leading business development, building partnerships with local municipalities and provincial governments, and collaborating with CNL Communications to engage with First Nations and the Manitoba Metis Federation?   • Managing relationships with existing and new partners and prospects.
  • Constantly expanding knowledge of prospective business.
  • Championing partner and client issues and resolving problems efficiently and effectively.
  • Coordinating the development of an annual integration plan for advancing the site’s economic vision/strategy.
  • Developing a model or models for site re-use that enables new economic opportunity.
  • Promoting the site’s economic plan through various channels to grow regional support and attract new business.
  • Presenting highly complex ideas, anticipating potential objections, influencing others (internal and external), and leading the process.
  • Identifying and coordinating CNL resources necessary to support the implementation of the plan and projects.
  • Monitoring progress against the plans during the year and updating CNL, Atomic Energy of Canada (AECL), and essential stakeholders as necessary.
  • Identifying, creating, developing and cultivating new business opportunities with prospective clients and partners.
  • Providing insight and support to the Marketing organization and others in Business Development by identifying new strategic opportunities for CNL.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for:

  • Education
  • University degree in business, engineering or science or equivalent in education, training and experience, with a minimum of 15 years of varied experience in projects related to economic development.
  • Master of Business Administration (MBA) is an asset.
  • Training or experience in Indigenous culture and history is an asset.
  • Experience
  • Relationship Management experience.
  • Experience related to nuclear decommissioning, waste management or environmental remediation is an asset.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of nuclear environmental remediation management (ERM) and nuclear energy markets.
  • Knowledge of Manitoba business market.
  • Knowledge of the Indigenous business market.
  • Knowledge of the ERM supply chain and ability to develop and maintain a business-to-business (B2B) relationship network.
  • Strong understanding of the ERM and nuclear energy sector business issues and requirements.
  • Detailed knowledge and experience negotiating and implementing various styles of contracts and agreements.
  • Outstanding oral, written and interpersonal skills, including presentations to senior and Executive level clients.
  • Effective at engaging and building relationships with business leaders, executives, government & community leaders, Indigenous communities, and other essential stakeholders.
  • Ability to mobilize a variety of people and teams to take effective action.
  • Understands strategy, decision-making process, key roles within complex organizational structures, and sector-wide issues.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
  • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat’s “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”

Working Conditions:

  • We have a compressed work week, which consists of a four-day work week and ten hours a day – starting at 6 am.
  • Work will be divided between office-based activities and travel/visits with clients and partners.
  • Office-based activities can be performed partially remotely.
