Job description
Are you up for the challenge? The City is looking for a Community Services Crew Leader to fit into a diverse leadership team that provides hands-on leadership up to 150 employees at various arena and field locations located throughout the City of Edmonton. You must be a good communicator and multi-tasker who takes pride in providing a high level of service.What you will do:
- Supervise, train, evaluate and lead staff on-site that are involved in the effective and efficient operation and maintenance of City arenas and/or staffed field facilities
- Carry out the work plan according to approved work standards and schedules, set priorities and meet deadlines
- Respond to emails, voice messages and other correspondence received from the arena and field facility staff, partners, team leaders and supervisors to find out the priorities for the day
- Encourage employee consultation and participation in decision making related to day-to-day facility operations
- Visit the facilities and talk to each staff member on a weekly/biweekly basis
- Attend monthly team meetings
- Instruct, facilitate and participate in the work of staff performing a wide variety of unskilled and semi-skilled manual duties
- Lead the maintenance and repair of ice for indoor arenas and/or maintenance of staffed field facilities
- Address customer and stakeholder needs as related to service delivery on-site
- Prepare, assign and track requisitions, purchases and facility resources for facility maintenance and operations through Corporate Procurement and SAP
- Plan, conduct and evaluate monthly safety inspections, Enviso inspections and annual evacuation drills at all arenas and field facilities
- Adhere to and enforce all Occupational Health and Safety Codes
- Conduct accident investigations for staff
- Support new and ongoing projects and technologies
- Maintain an effective working relationship with the public and other City departments
Qualifications
- Completed 2 year diploma in a Recreation or related field
- 2 years progressively responsible experience in a recreation facility or related
- 2 years of supervisory experience
- Minimum of 2 years of Arena Operations experience
Assets:
- Completion of WHMIS
- Completed RFP Arena Operator 1 & 2
Skills required for success:
- Demonstrated effective leadership skills for team development, supervisor duties, customer service and effective delivery of approved services
- Proficiency with Google Mail and Applications, POSSE, SAP, CLASS and Right Fax
- Ability to change tasks quickly and to effectively manage items that require immediate attention
- Good written and verbal communication skills

- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent). Must obtain business auto insurance for personal vehicle use on City business
- Valid Standard First Aid with CPR level C and AED training is a requirement of this position
- Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
