Job Summary
Oregon State University, Cascades invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE ), 9-month, fixed-term Human Development and Family Sciences Instructor position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Dean.
Appointment at the Instructor rank is anticipated; however, appointment at a promoted rank may be considered depending upon the qualifications of the successful candidate.
This 9-month, 1.0 FTE Instructor position in the Human Development and Family Sciences ( HDFS ) program at OSU Cascades in Bend, Oregon, is integral to advancing the program’s mission of improving individual and family well-being across the lifespan. As part of the College of Health, the position focuses on teaching and curriculum development for undergraduate courses in HDFS , mentoring students, and contributing service to the HDFS program, OSU -Cascades, and the university. This position emphasizes expertise in early childhood and topics related to diversity and inclusion, fostering culturally attuned and trauma-informed practices. Through its commitment to inclusivity, collaboration, and student success, this position supports OSU -Cascades’ broader mission of preparing students for impactful careers and lifelong learning.

Key Responsibilities
80% Teaching, Advising, Mentoring, and other Student-Related Activities:
Duties may include face-to-face classroom, hybrid, and/or e-campus teaching, communicating with students (through office hours, email, phone calls, discussion boards, etc.), course development, and mentoring students in experiential learning (e.g., internships, research, service learning). Teaching obligations additionally include responding to grade complaints; responding to requests from students for letters of recommendation; and similar post-term activities. Advising and mentoring includes undergraduate advising and mentoring on programs of study, thesis projects, independent studies, career preparation and opportunities, and graduate or professional school applications. Student-related activities may also include participation in and the development of programming to recruit and retain students and ensure they are career ready.
10% Maintaining Currency
Engaging in scholarly and/or professional development activities that will support teaching, maintain professional engagement and mastery and provide recognition for both the faculty member and the OSU -Cascades organization.
10% Service and additional duties as assigned:
Responsibilities include service to the HDFS program and OSU -Cascades campus, the community, and the School, College and University (e.g. relationships with community-based programs relevant to HDFS , serving on committees, initiatives to recruit and retain HDFS students).
What You Will Need
-
Masters degree in HDFS or a closely related field.
-
Demonstrated experse in a discipline relevant to HDFS .

Experience teaching at the upper division (i.e., 300 400-level) or higher in a college or university seng.

Evidence of effecve teaching and experience teaching at the university level or comparable professional development sengs.

Demonstrated ability to recruit, support, teach, and mentor individuals from diverse backgrounds and with different life experiences.
-
Demonstraon of exceponal communicaon, interpersonal and leadership skills, and ability to work collaboravely with faculty, leadership, and community partners.

The evidenced ability to contribute to the HDFS program, the College of Health, and OSU -Cascades mission and vision, such as through innovave programming and delivery.
What We Would Like You to Have

Bilingual in English and Spanish

Direct, lived experience with issues or topics that align with core themes in HDFS coursework and experienal learning.

Experience mentoring undergraduate students in high impact experiences, such as internships and/or research.

Experience establishing and sustaining relaonships with community partners relevant to the HDFS program.

Experience in the pracce of early childhood development, intervenon, and/or learning.

Demonstrated effecveness teaching courses in key topic areas (e.g., early childhood, children and youth with disabilies, race, culture, and/or immigraon, trauma-informed pracces, family policy). • Experience in curricular development at the college or university-level

PhD in HDFS or closely related field.
