Job Description:Our Thunder Bay client is hiring for an exciting position within a growing company. The Cost/Reporting Accountant will play a pivotal role in maintaining financial integrity through detailed cost analysis, timely preparation of financial reports, and assisting with various accounting and regulatory tasks. This individual will collaborate closely with the Director of Finance while supporting company forecasting, budgeting, and reporting initiatives. This role is 100% onsite.Key Responsibilities:Financial Data and Reporting

  • Verify financial data to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
  • Prepare journal entries and maintain subsidiary ledgers (accounts receivable, capital assets).
  • Produce monthly financial reports and supporting financial schedules.
  • Prepare audit binder documentation, HST filings, and regulatory support schedules.

Analysis and Budgeting

  • Conduct cost analyses tied to budgetary and cost estimate variances.
  • Prepare budget performance reports for department leads.
  • Support financial forecasting and analysis for capital projects and resource allocation.

Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Procurement

  • Maintain the accounts receivable subledger.
  • Aid procurement and accounts payable teams with proper financial documentation and backing.
  • Support lender and financing reports.

Capital Asset Management

  • Monitor, track, and adjust for capital asset additions, disposals, and depreciation activity.

Regulatory and Tax Compliance

  • Assist in preparing corporate tax documentation.
  • Support lender and regulatory filing requirements.

Ideal Candidate Profile:The successful candidate will have strong technical expertise in cost analysis, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance. With a background in accounting, this individual must demonstrate attention to detail, time management skills, and adaptability to support a growing organization’s dynamic needs.Key Qualifications include:

  • CPA designation or currently active as a candidate in the CPA program.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and tools (e.g., Microsoft Excel/ERP systems).
  • Experience in financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting is required.
  • Strong financial analysis skills and the ability to communicate findings to leadership clearly.
  • Experience working in or auditing a regulated industry (ie. utilities) is required.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Cost/Reporting Accountant or in a similar role.
  • Proficiency in Account Reconciliation and Balance Sheet Reconciliation.
  • Solid understanding of General Ledger and Journal Entries.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with Month End Close procedures.
  • Familiarity with SAP.
  • Strong capabilities in Financial Reporting and Regulatory Reporting.
  • Extensive knowledge of US GAAP.
  • Proven experience in Budgeting and Forecasting.
  • Ability to prepare an Annual Operating Budget.
  • Expertise in Cost Analysis.

Expected salary

$78000 – 88000 per year
