Home to some of the most comprehensive research infrastructure and teaching facilities in the world, our college is shaping the future and promoting interdisciplinarity through rigorous educational programs, innovative teaching practices and cutting-edge research.PositionReporting to the Director, Office of Education in CNAS, the Academic Initiatives and Governance Officer plays a key role in facilitating academic projects, issues and initiatives related to various administrative and academic matters across CNAS. The position works with academic leaders across the College to ensure academic priorities and initiatives are managed in a strategic and appropriate manner. The position supports governance approval processes for faculty and department proposals as well as quality assurance and accreditation review processes.Duties

  • Creates frameworks and terms of reference for the development of College academic initiatives. Conducts research to provide background, understand consequences and identify appropriate processes for the development of portfolio initiatives.
  • Responsible for researching, writing and editing reports and other documents, creating work plans for projects and attending meetings.
  • Assesses the implications of specific proposals or decision items, and provides strategic advice to senior administrators on these items.
  • Ensures strategic and efficient management of program proposals, Calendar changes, Quality Assurance Reviews and accreditation reports.
  • Provides clear and understandable advice and recommendations to Faculties and Departments on academic program proposals and programming initiatives based on experience and knowledge to support informed decision making by leaders.
  • Gathers and prepares supporting data and information required for proposals and reports
  • Manages the approval process for program proposals and Calendar changes for the Faculties in the College.
  • Coordinates and supports policy development.
  • Creates document development plans for policy projects, including research, environmental scans, consultation and approval routing, and communication plans.
  • Drafts policies and procedures. Provides strategic advice to policy developers in the portfolio on content and process related to policy development.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of a University degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years progressively responsible project management experience, with the ability to work independently within a large institutional environment with a variety of groups.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of University policies, administrative and governance processes and academic programs.
  • Superior analytical reasoning and organizational skills.
  • Skill in problem solving and excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and to take initiative.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with senior administration and with team members from a variety of disciplines.
