We offer diverse and inclusive avenues of artistic inquiry supported by collaborative interplay among programs.PositionThe Department of Drama at the University of Alberta invites applications for an Academic Teaching Staff member (rank TBD) with expertise in teaching Acting and Directing at the undergraduate level and Intimacy Direction or Coaching, with experience in teaching general theatre practice to a variety of majors and non-majors. This is an eight-month full-time position starting September 1, 2024, with a teaching load of six courses over 2 semesters.Responsibilities for the position include:

  • Teaching 5 undergraduate courses over 2 semesters. Subject to confirmation, the teaching assignment is likely to include junior courses in theatre making and acting, with senior undergraduate directing.
  • 1 HCE additional is devoted to Intimacy Direction or Coaching for classroom projects at the undergraduate level as needed, maintaining a resource centre for students on Intimacy Direction, and coaching as needed for MFA Directing Candidate productions in our BLT and Studio seasons.
  • Service responsibilities directly related to the teaching assignment (student advising, office hours) and participation in department meetings.

Qualifications

  • Applicants must hold an MFA in Drama (Directing or Acting).
  • Demonstrated effective university teaching is a requirement for the position.
  • Experience in Intimacy Direction or Coaching in a university setting is required.
