Campus: St. George (Downtown Toronto)Description:The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FIPP) Office supports protection of personal privacy, as well access to University records in support of transparency and accountability.Reporting to the Coordinators of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FIPP) Office, the Access and Privacy Specialist supports the response and management of privacy matters, processes routine requests under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA), including communicating with requesters, faculty, staff, and others as necessary. The Access and Privacy Specialist assists with appeals and investigations before the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario (the IPC), facilitates presentations, and conducts training on relevant topics. This is a highly collaborative position with University-wide reach and impact.The Access and Privacy Specialist will also participate in the advancement of projects and undertake initiatives and daily activities within the FIPP Office.Qualifications Required:I. EDUCATION:University degree or acceptable combination of education and relevant records/information management, access/privacy, and/or legal work experience. A graduate degree or a JD/LLB is an asset.II. EXPERIENCE:Three years of working with access and privacy legislation in Ontario and Canada, including FIPPA and related regulations and procedures, provincial policies and orders, as well as other statutes in a higher education or public sector setting. Understanding of the University’s organizational and governance structures, practices and policies is an asset. Experience working with data management and analytics is an asset. Project management experience is an asset.III. SKILLS:
IV. OTHER:Tact, diplomacy and discretion. Understanding of privacy issues and sensitivities. High level of discretion when handling extremely sensitive corporate or personal information. Effective communication and presentation skills. Ability to successfully evaluate and negotiate the complexities of competing interests and values.
