Do you have a deep passion and desire to safe-guard the largest cloud computing infrastructure with a national security mission?AWS Security is looking for a Systems Engineering Manager to lead a team of Windows Systems Engineers who manage the operation of our physical access control system (PACS)! The manager is expected to have an understanding of operating large-scale global Windows deployments, with a general understanding of Native AWS fundamentals. The team works at a high pace and this manager will need to be capable of managing multiple projects across multiple customers and allocating the right resources to the customer needs. This manager leads a team of high performing systems engineers participating in a 24×7 on-call rotation with predominately day-shift engineering.AWS established a specialized group of service teams responsible for the work we are doing with the U.S. Intelligence Community. We are building some of the largest and most complex distributed systems in the world, and we need adaptable people to help us implement and operate them.This position requires that the candidate selected be a US Citizen and currently possess and maintain an active Top Secret security clearance.Key job responsibilities

  • Implementing and/or improving internal processes, dashboards, and operations to achieve or exceed Internal Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
  • Providing exceptional leadership and management for a staff of local and remote AWS employees,
  • Demonstrating ability to complete root cause identification and correction of errors without pointing fingers,
  • Developing professionals with a breadth and depth of experience, skillset, and career aspirations,
  • Being a great people manager. Having the ability to hire, develop, motivate and mentor a group of world-class engineers is the most important part of this role.
  • Retaining top talent, excelling in day-to-day people and performance management, and have the ability to recruit new engineers.
  • Distilling work into granular units are able to translate requirements into an actionable roadmap.
  • Delivering the right things at the right time with competing priorities at times.

A day in the life
We are primarily a Windows server shop, using HyperV for virtualization, but in recent months our scope of infrastructure expertise has broadened from bare metal hosts/VMs to solutions that run on Native AWS Services. Our team has a core function of ensuring Lenel application and system stability, often diving deep to trouble-shoot common issues, as well as anomalies, working closely with our partners. On a day-to-day basis, we strive for engineering and operational excellence through patching, and other security compliance activities, along with deploying scripting/automation solutions to build servers and monitor their performance.About the team
AWS-SOC Systems Engineering (SE) team within AWS Security owns all Physical Access Control Systems AWS Data Centers. SOC SE is unique in that our Physical Security Services are Tier 0, making them critical to the over-arching security posture of our data centers and ultimately our customers’ data. – 10+ years of experience managing an engineering and support organization for a large (commercial or internal)
– 7+ years of relevant systems engineering, or systems administration experience using Windows, Power-shell, and SQL databases
– 5+ years of experience operating in a 24/7 production environment
– 5+ years of experience managing software, systems, or DevOps engineering teams in an operational environment
– Current, active US Government Security Clearance of Top Secret or abovePREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS– Experience hiring, mentoring, developing, and managing highly-successful and efficient tier-1 product support teams
– Robust understanding of support processes (SLA), handling tickets, monitoring, processes and metrics
– Strong ability to identify and solve ambiguous customer-focused problems, and track record of delivering products/services in a highly technical multi-team environment
– High attention to detail with proven ability to juggle multiple, conflicting priorities simultaneously and make things happen in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
– Experience with Agile engineering practices (Kanban, continuous delivery, etc.)

The base pay for this position ranges from $142,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $245,600/year in our highest geographic market.
