The Department provides instruction to approximately 12,000 students annually at the undergraduate and graduate level. The department has a strong research program in the areas of Applied Mathematics, Discrete Mathematics, Pure Mathematics and Statistics.*This position is eligible for a Modified Work Schedule*Job SummaryUnder the supervision of the Assistant to the Chair, this position is the first point of contact for the Department of Mathematics and Statistics and provides frontline support for the department. This position is responsible for answering and directing inquiries, providing general office support to instructors and staff, and detailed administrative support to the undergraduate program, undergraduate adviser, and distributing information via the web and social media.Job RequirementsExperience:

• Experience in an administrative role or equivalent education.
• Experience using a variety of office equipment, file management, software and programs including MS Office, SharePoint, spreadsheets, etc.

Preference will be given to applicants with:

• Experience with UVic information systems
• Experience working with record information systems

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Ability to adapt to changing technologies and procedures;
• Experience in maintaining confidential and sensitive information
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

• Familiarity with social media platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, Facebook

Specialized Knowledge/Education:

• Knowledge of office and business administration and relevant best practices, obtained through experience, training, or coursework towards a certificate or diploma.
• Understanding of the University’s policies, procedures, governance, Collective Agreement an asset.
