The department has five academic divisions, 19 full-time academic faculty members, and over 100 clinical academic colleagues in general obstetrics and gynecology. Our faculty members encompass the full range of academic medicine including General Obstetrics and Gynecology, Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility, Gynecological Oncology, Reproductive Sciences and Urogynecology.Position SummaryThe Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of OBGYN, at the University of Alberta, Edmonton Zone, Women’s Health, is inviting internal applications for an Academic Medicine and Health Service Program (AMHSP) Academic Position in Education and Trainee Research.Remuneration for this position will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and based on the income scale of the six-step Academic Medicine and Health Services Program (AMHSP). Further details about this innovative funding plan are available on request.The successful candidate will be offered a contingent tenured or tenure-track appointment in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, with the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, which is in accordance with the and offers a comprehensiveAs part of the new Obstetrics and Gynecology AMHSP and support of the medical school expansion, we plan to recruit a clinician-educator to support undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and the northern medical school expansion. OBGYN is a core part of the medical school training providing education in pre-clinical Repro block, 3rd year core clinical clerkship, surgery 556 selective in 4th year, and electives. Currently, we have 1 UME coordinator who will require support with the new expansion and growth of the medical school class.Our residency program is also expanding. We now have 8 positions per year (increased from 6), with 1 IMG per year, and planned future expansion to correlate with the medical school expansion. Scholarly activity is a core part of residency training and this position will support student and resident research and also the clinical investigator program residents.Duties
- The candidate(s) selected for this position will be referred to the AMHSP Arrangement Management Committee to finalize their yearly individual service agreement, which the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry and Alberta Health Services jointly approved.
- This position will actively participate in medical education and/or research. In addition to post-graduate residency training, the Department has commitments to education as a part of the MD Program with the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, providing pre-clinical and clinical teaching for core and elective experiences for undergraduate MD students.
Minimum Qualifications
- Candidates for this position must already hold a position in the Edmonton zone in the department of OBGYN and in Women’s Health.
- Candidates must be certified or eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons as an Obstetrician Gynecologist. The position will allow up to 0.5 FTE for medical education or research; the remaining FTE will be clinical services with AHS.
