Do you thrive in complex environments where innovation, problem-solving, and leadership drive success?The City of Edmonton’s Open City and Technology (OCT) branch seeks an experienced Application & Infrastructure Analyst III (AIS III) to join our Data Technology team. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in ensuring the City’s corporate data network’s availability, reliability, and performance. This foundational infrastructure supports city-wide services and solutions.What will you do?

  • Lead a team of network analysts to provide operational support for the City’s corporate network infrastructure, including data center operations, cloud network environments, and network security
  • Provide technical direction across all aspects of network management, including network design, implementation, maintenance, and upgrades for critical infrastructure components such as firewalls, overlay networks, application delivery controllers, cloud tenants, and VPN technologies
  • Plan for capacity and performance, overseeing network infrastructure upgrades, production platform enhancements, and data center expansions, ensuring efficient change management processes
  • Contribute to budget planning, providing input on networking costs, resource allocation, and variance explanations to support strategic financial decision-making
  • Manage work objectives and performance expectations for team members, ensuring all committed work is completed on time, within budget, and aligned with agreed service levels
  • Supervise and mentor staff, leading hiring, onboarding, training, scheduling, performance evaluations, coaching, and team-building efforts to foster a high-performing team
  • Collaborate with other teams in the Open City and Technology branch, supporting the implementation of technical projects and initiatives that align with the City’s digital infrastructure strategy

Qualifications

  • Completion of a Degree in a related discipline with 6+ years of technical experience in a computing environment OR
  • Completion of a post-secondary Diploma in a related discipline with 7+ years of technical experience in a computing environment
  • Experience supervising and managing staff, including assigning work, setting performance expectations, and mentoring team members
  • Hands-on experience in a hybrid cloud and on-premise computing network environment, managing diverse data, applications, and technologies similar to the City of Edmonton’s infrastructure

Assets:

  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) and/or Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE)
  • Knowledge of cloud computing platforms such as Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Google Cloud Platform (GCP), with relevant certifications and training

Skills required for success:

  • Advanced/expert knowledge of network design, system integration, and Cisco network technologies (routers, switches, wireless control systems, and networking protocols)
  • Experience with network appliances and tools, including Infoblox (DHCP/DNS), Pulse Secure (VPN), SolarWinds (NCM/NPM), and Cisco ISE/ACI/DNA Center
  • Strong understanding of network security technologies, including firewalls, access control systems, RSA SecurID, proxies, and multi-factor authentication
  • Ability to apply patches and updates, understanding their impact on system stability
  • Working knowledge of load balancers, broadband wireless technologies, and managed network connectivity solutions (MPLS, F5)
  • Proficiency in scripting/automation, Google Workspace (G Suite), Microsoft Visio, and ITIL processes
  • Experience using ITIL frameworks for incident and work order management

  • Hire is dependent on a Police Information Check that is satisfactory to the City of Edmonton and is a requirement of this position, there may be a cost associated with this requirement
