But, when David joined us in the mid-2010s, small businesses were still struggling to get connected to fibre. Without gigabit-capable broadband, some companies even resorted to biking memory sticks around the city, simply to share files with clients.Although still in a junior role, David took the initiative and successfully made the business case for £2.8 million of European funding to support connectivity for small businesses across Westminster. Feedback from businesses has been overwhelmingly positive as the project has enhanced their communications with clients. The new connectivity allows them to make video calls and work remotely. As the pandemic hit and many more people needed to work from home, it became clear just how vital this investment had been.Fast-forward a few years. Westminster is leading the way for connectivity, as a result of the project businesses are thriving, and David is heading up a service of his own responsible for delivery of the Smart City strategy.The Role:As an Application Support Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of Westminster City Council’s platforms and applications. Your primary responsibilities will include managing day-to-day support and service requests while adhering to established processes and procedures. Additionally, you will oversee the development and implementation of policies and strategies to standardise application support and enhance operational efficiency.This role focuses on maintaining and supporting a diverse range of business-critical applications, facilitating the onboarding of new solutions, and driving continuous improvements to align with the evolving needs of modern services. Collaboration will be a cornerstone of your work as you liaise with team members, stakeholders, and departments to ensure seamless service delivery. Working within a multidisciplinary team employing agile methodologies and modern tools, you will lead efforts to elevate service delivery and operational performance.Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Manage a team that provide support for critical applications, ensuring timely and effective resolution of issues.
  • Oversee system performance, proactively identifying and mitigating risks to maintain uninterrupted operations.
  • Manage relationships with stakeholders to ensure service level agreements are met and expectations are exceeded.
  • Lead the onboarding and integration of new applications into the existing technology ecosystem.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of support processes, activities, and procedures to foster transparency and consistency.
  • Develop and implement application support policies to drive improvements in efficiency and reliability.

Please refer to the for more information.About You:The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate strong technical expertise and a comprehensive understanding of digital technologies. This includes experience with platforms such as Dynamics applications, websites, mobile apps, and other digital systems.You should exhibit a proactive approach to improving operational efficiency, with excellent analytical skills to triage issues effectively and communicate solutions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.Westminster City Council is committed to supporting Care Leavers into the workplace.
