Are you interested in a new and challenging opportunity? We are looking for an Architectural Designer & Space Planner to co-ordinate and assign space at our Chalk River Location! Do you have experience with corporate space guidelines, designing offices and workstations in accordance with corporate space and furniture standards and the National Building Code to make effective and efficient use of corporate real-estate aligned with the Site Master Plan?   • Meeting with customers and identify facility/space needs, develop options and scenarios
  • Working with space and design SPOC, co-ordinate and assign space at CRL , having regard for corporate space guidelines
  • Sourcing and selecting office furniture, equipment and other products and services required by customers and the Facility Design and Management Team, utilizing where possible corporate standard items. Prepare appropriate parts lists and Purchase Orders.
  • Recommending, generating and revising where necessary, corporate space and furniture standards and space allocation policies.
  • Assisting with preparation of Project Client Requirement Documents
  • Developing proposals and prepare architectural concepts, design layout drawings, Scopes of Work for minor renovations and negotiate with customers on final deliverables.
  • Preparing as-built architectural drawings and floorplans (FIS system).
  • Updating and keeping current base building drawings, (i.e.floorplans)
  • Coordinating minor renovation projects when requested, working with FNO Planning, trades, construction supervisors and purchasing.
  • Making note of aesthetic and structural deficiencies, determine budget availability, prepare scope of work & submit repair or renovation work requests.
  • Advising Site Moves and Information Coordinator of changes to FIS occupancy data.

What we are looking for:

  • Secondary School Honour Graduation or its equivalent. A minimum of three years’ pertinent electronic architectural drafting experience preferably in interior design, or the equivalent in experience, additional education and/or training.
  • Graduation from a recognized Community College program in Architectural Technology, Facility Management, Interior Design or a related discipline or equivalent formal education.
  • Must possess a working knowledge of architectural drafting technique and practice.
  • Must have working knowledge and ability to use Computer Aided Drafting systems.
  • Knowledge of Microstation would be an assset.
  • Should possess a working knowledge of office design, equipment, furniture and finishes to complete required tasks with minimal direction.
  • Strong aesthetic design abilities are an asset.
  • Must have above average communication skills, both verbal and written along with tact and good judgment, in order to interact with a large number of customers and deal with confidential information.
  • Must have working level ability in word processing (e.g. MS Word) and data-base software (e.g. MS Exel).
  • Must have ability to conceptualize the use of systems furniture and accessories used within the AECL standards and convey this to customers.
  • Must be capable of producing neat, legible, and accurate drawings in reasonable time.
  • Must have general knowledge of office furniture and standard building equipment and materials.
  • Must be able to manage a large volume of tasks and work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
  • Must be able to work effectively with others.
  • Design offices and workstations in accordance with corporate space and furniture standards and the National Building Code to make effective and efficient use of corporate real estate.
  • Knowledge and experience in facility management, interior design and space management or Geographical Information Systems is an asset.

  • This role is based out of CNL’s Chalk River, which will be the designated workplace. CNL may require travel from time to time, as necessary.
