Position Title / Rank: Assistant/Associate Professor in Accounting
Department: ManagementPosition Description:The Department of Management (DoM) in the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics (Lang) at the University of Guelph is seeking applications for an accounting position at the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure track) or Associate Professor (tenured). We are looking for an exceptional candidate who demonstrates a strong commitment to student engagement, transformative pedagogy, impactful scholarship, and meaningful community involvement.The successful candidate will be expected to teach in the accounting program, develop or continue an active research program with high-quality publications, pursue external research funding (particularly tri-agency or equivalent), advise and mentor graduate students, and engage in collaborative research opportunities with faculty in accounting, within the Lang School of Business and Economics, and the broader scholarly community. The anticipated start date for this appointment is July 1, 2025, or another mutually agreed-upon date in 2025. The role’s effort distribution is expected to be 40% teaching, 40% scholarship, and 20% service.Required Qualifications (Assistant Professor):

• A PhD in accounting or a closely related field (we will consider those with PhD near completion)
• Must have published in a ‘B’ level or higher journal or have a paper under review in an ‘A’ level or higher journal, as recognized by established journal quality lists (e.g., ABDC, SJR, Harzing)
• Evidence of a robust research pipeline and potential to secure external research funding
• Experience in teaching at the university undergraduate or graduate level

Preferred Qualifications (Assistant Professor):

• A Canadian CPA designation in good standing is an asset but not required
• Proven success in securing research grants
• Capability to teach courses in Accounting Information Systems, Management Accounting, Business Analytics, or Canadian Taxation
• Experience across multiple delivery methods (in-person, online, hybrid)
• Active engagement in professional services
• Strong oral communication skills

Required Qualifications (Associate Professor):

• A PhD in accounting or a closely related field
• Demonstrated a strong record of high-quality publications, including at least five publications in high-quality peer-reviewed journals (i.e.,” A” or “B” level or higher, first quartile), as indicated by various journal quality lists (e.g., ABDC, SJR, or Harzing)
• Demonstrated independence and maturity through an established research program that extends beyond one’s doctoral thesis
• Evidence of a robust research pipeline and research funding
• Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching accounting at the university undergraduate and/or graduate level
• Demonstrated ability to successfully supervise graduate or undergraduate research projects to completion
• A satisfactory record of internal and external service activity

Preferred Qualifications (Associate Professor):

• Publications in high-quality peer-reviewed accounting journals
• Experience mentoring PhD students and/or supervising graduate research projects

• Strong oral communication skills
