People like you!This is assistant supervisory work involving the responsibility for the maintenance and oversight of the City’s Transfer Site. An incumbent assigns, coordinates, schedules, directs, reviews, supervises, inspects and participates in the work of subordinate staff and contractors engaged in maintaining vegetation, litter removal activities, power washing structures, flushing culverts, hose bibs, skimming trash from settling cells and a variety of related work. Directs the operation of heavy equipment to appropriate location to dump on site, including but not limited to trucks, loaders, backhoes, cranes, pumps and compressors. Oversees a variety of waste streams by engaging service providers. Maintains the decant facility by engaging staff and contractors to clean out settling cells of the decant facility dumping surface; monitors inventory levels for bulk construction materials and place orders as required. Oversees the brine making operations; carries out repairs to the system; and provides updates to a supervisor as required. Prepares and maintains a variety of reports and records. Performs related work as required.Qualifications include Completion of Grade 12 plus sound related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Sound knowledge of the methods, practices, materials, tools and equipment used in the work. Sound knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions related to work. Ability to assign, coordinate, schedule, direct, review, supervise, inspect, participate in the work of subordinate crews and contractors; to direct the operation of heavy equipment including but not limited to trucks, loaders, backhoes, cranes, pumps and compressors; to prepare and maintain a variety of reports and records using computer applications. Ability to operate equipment such as a tandem dump truck for moving materials around the transfer site. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts. Skill in the use and care of a variety of tools and equipment used in the work. A Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia, Class 3 with Air Brake Endorsement is required.
