To assist the Health & Safety Lead Advisor and the Head of Health & Safety Service in supporting the delivery of the NHS Borders Health and Safety Management Systems. To provide training, advice and assurance of compliance with health and safety legislation.Key responsibilities include daily delivery of key training in Prevention and Management of Aggression and Violence and Moving & Handling, producing written reports in a clear and concise manner and support the development of policies and procedures.This is a physically demanding role as training delivery will be a priority for the post holder, the ability to deliver Prevention and Management of Aggression and Violence practical training within a gym environment and the ability to delivery Moving and Handling training within a mock ward environment.Generic Health & Safety Topics will also be prioritised (Risk Assessment, COSHH, Noise etc) for the post holder as and when required.Key requirements & motivation, are you: –

  • Enthusiastic about improving safety
  • An excellent communicator, comfortable working with all levels of staff
  • Experienced in health care, with relevant hands-on patient care experience
  • A Member of IOSH, or equivalent and NEBOSH Certificate, or equivalent, or willing to work towards.
  • A GSA Grade A Instructor Certificate desirable/or motivation to achieve.
  • Are you experienced in Moving & Handling, willing to achieve Trainer status.
  • Able to travel around the Scottish Borders and hold a Full driving license.
  • Able to work flexibly
  • An Excellent Team player

Interview ProcessInterviews will be held on 19th September 2024, these will include a physical assessment working within a gym environment participating in physical training (floor, seated, and standing) in group session in the morning, followed by a formal interview with a presentation in the afternoon.Permanent contract will be subject to the successful candidate achieving GSA Grade A Tutor status in the Management of Aggression and Violence and Moving and Handling Train the Trainer certificate, this will include fully committing to attending a three-week intensive tutor course, and week-long tutor course respectively, both are external to NHS Borders, dates to be confirmed.For further information please contact Sue Keean, Health & Safety Lead Advisor 01896 825982 or***PLEASE NOTE: We cannot accept late applications so please ensure your application is submitted early****Please note: As this is a part time post the salary shown will be pro rata*NHS Scotland is reducing their full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period, for which you would be paid, until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
