Environmental Health and WASH Research Group under the Health Systems and Population Studies Division has focused on determining and mitigating environmental pollution, evaluating WASH strategies for improved health, and generating evidence to understand the extent of environmental pollution and contamination in low-resource settings.Lead exposure, a significant public health concern, is responsible for numerous fatal and non-fatal diseases, including cardiovascular diseases and cognitive impairment. This issue is particularly prevalent in Bangladesh. To address this, icddr,b is conducting a crucial research project. The Assistant Programme Manager will play a pivotal role in this project, focusing on lead exposure through cookware in Bangladesh.
Responsibilities:
The Assistant Programme Manager will report to the Assistant Scientist and will be responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing research activities to collect data, analyze, write reports and manuscripts, and document within the research protocol guidelines and organizational values and guidelines. She/he will also be involved in –
- Conduct literature review, analyze data, and draw scientific inferences;
- Explore statistical research ideas;
- Develop conceptual framework;
- Create statistical research hypothesis and objectives;
- Align research hypothesis and objectives with goals of the center;
- Finalize research hypothesis, methodology, and timelines;
- Provide support to researchers in developing research methods and tools;
- Resolve queries/questions related to the soundness of methodology;
- Prepare manuscript/research report in collaboration with co-authors;
- Share draft manuscript with co-authors;
- Coordinate with journals for publication;
- Develop statistical analysis and conduct data modeling on the research data;
- Resolve queries and issues related to statistical analysis;
- Administer all kinds of data forms;
- Work with supervisor for data analysis and prepare documentation of data set;
- Create a script for the database;
- Download data periodically received from the field;
- Backup database regularly on a separate location in the cloud and computers;
- Produce summary reports regularly;
- Take corrective action as directed by the supervisor to retrieve data and provide cleaned versions to the supervisor;
- Work with team members to prepare field plans; collect high-quality data in a timely manner, adhering to ethical guidelines;
- Promote a spirit of collegiality amongst the team members.
Required qualifications and experience:
- Masters in Statistics / Bio-statistics / Applied Statistics from a reputed university;
- Minimum five years of experience in public health research;
- Very good knowledge and skill in Survey and health data;
- Must have good knowledge of Statistical packages like STATA/ R and SQL;
- Can perform statistical analysis independently;
- Publication in relevant fields will be an added advantage.
