Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular full-time Associate Director, PPRP Formulary Operations to join our dynamic Plasma Protein and Related Products Formulary Program team in our Medical Affairs and Innovation division.The PPRP Formulary Program team is responsible for leading Canadian Blood Services’ formulary management processes on behalf of Provinces and Territories in order to meet patients’ needs.In this role, you will provide a point of accountability for the management and effective execution of formulary operations, including product selection processes and special authorization, based on operational expectations and objectives. You will be responsible for providing leadership, direction, management, and support to immediate subordinates in the design, implementation and monitoring of the performance of relevant within the department. You must have clear oversight of operational guidelines to plan, implement and oversee any potential risks to the program, and must ensure that all processes and procedures are development and compliant in accordance with the defined mandate of the program. You will also be responsible for leading the development, planning, management, and implementation of continuous improvement initiatives, including specific projects, components of major complex projects, process improvement initiatives and process maintenance.Formula for success

  • Drawing on your excellent program/project management skills, you will provide operational oversight to all aspects of formulary operations (including product selection processes and special authorization).
  • Concentrating on your strong quantitative and analytical skills, you will oversees the operation to achieve key performance metrics.
  • Applying your ability to build relationships with key subject matter experts, you will collaborate with internal and external key stakeholders to ensure smooth flow of operations and clear delineation of roles and responsibilities.
  • Leveraging your attention to detail and superior planning and organizational skills, you will ensure specific policies, processes, standards and procedures are developed. Ensure that the designed processes are accurate, representative of industry best practices and are both efficient and effective.
  • Utilizing your ability to assess maturity levels at both the system and process management levels, you will build an understanding of process maturity for the program and provide data to drive process improvement priorities.
  • Using your strong business acumen and demonstrated ability to deliver results, you will contribute to the stakeholder consultation and communication plan development and execution of operational plans.
  • Harnessing your knowledge and demonstrated expertise, you will be responsible for translating jurisdictional formulary concepts into a pan-Canadian environment.
  • Leveraging your continuous growth mindset, you will lead the identification and implementation of continuous improvement initiatives. Includes standardization of processes, identifying process opportunities, and driving implementation of improvements.
  • Focusing on your superior communication and interpersonal skills, you will develop and maintain positive working relationships with other leaders across the organization. You will also engage and collaborate with external stakeholders to create partnerships and build strong relationships with various external stakeholders and other relevant organizations, groups and individuals that contribute to maintaining CBS’ mandate.
  • Drawing on your strong leadership, customer focus and team building skills, you will hire, direct, monitor and appraise the performance of direct reports, identifies training needs, initiates staff development, recommends.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Desired education and skills

  • Completion of a university degree in Pharmacy as well as a PharmD. Certificate in Pharmaco-epidemiology or master’s degree in epidemiology, Business Administration, public health, economics, health administration or other area of business is strongly preferred.
  • Licensed as a registered Pharmacist.
  • Previous management responsibilities is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years health system pharmacist experience is required.
  • 7-10 years of progressive experience in a clinical position including the management of components of a formulary program. Management, planning, strategy formulation and execution.
  • Previous experience in drug utilization, or formulary management is essential.
  • Experience in a clinical area (drug information, hematology, others).
  • Expertise in quality management systems, process analysis and process design.
  • Knowledge and understanding of project management, portfolio management and change management processes. Project management certification is considered an asset.
  • Specific experience in strategy and financial analysis is an asset.
  • Proven capabilities in leading initiatives.
  • Proven customer relationship management skills with a strong ability to manage internal relationships.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

  • This role will work in a hybrid environment with requirements to be onsite at Canadian Blood Services location 40% of the time/ 2 days of the week. This requirement may vary depending upon circumstances.
  • You may be required to travel 3-4 times per year within Canada for team meetings, conferences, and as required.
