Job Description

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Associate Professor, Higher Education Policy, College of Education [R0149966].

ROLE of the POSITION

The UNLV Higher Education program prepares students for research, administrative, and leadership positions in higher education. Our faculty are committed to maintaining a high level of scholarship through research and scholarly activities, and engage in national and international associations that add to the knowledge base locally, nationally, and internationally. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing and diverse higher education program. Our faculty have established records of scholarship in student affairs, community colleges, higher education policy, and access, equity, and student success. We aim to recruit applicants who will provide impactful instruction and emphasize training graduate students to become productive and thoughtful scholar-practitioners. The UNLV Higher Education programs include a Master of Education degree, and 3 Graduate Certificate Programs (Chief Diversity Officer, College Sports Leadership, and Higher Education). The program also offers an interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Educational Policy, Organizational Leadership, and Higher Education (EPOLHE) in collaboration with the UNLV Educational Policy& Leadership Program. The program offers a PK-20 perspective on education with sub-plans focused on Higher Education and PK-12 Education Policy. Program delivery includes face-to-face, online, remote, and hybrid formats. Qualified applicants should be prepared to contribute to the teaching mission of the Higher Education program at the graduate level.

PROFILE of the DEPARTMENT

The Department of Educational Psychology, Leadership, and Higher Education (EPLHE) invites applicants for a full-time, tenure-eligible Associate Professor in Higher Education Policy position with the start date of Fall 2026. The selected candidate will serve graduate programs in Higher Education, including the Higher Education Policy doctoral program. We especially invite applications from scholars with expertise in higher education policy, student affairs, organizational theory and institutional transformation, and higher education leadership, and who approach their work through a critical lens. We seek a scholar whose scholarship can contribute to the minority serving institution mission of the university. Other research areas will be considered as they complement our existing program faculty areas of expertise and focus.

As an HSI and AANAPISI-designated College of Education, we prepare learners to address contemporary challenges by: (a) advancing equity and access through innovative scholarship, practice and advocacy; (b) enhancing our communities through collaborative outreach and engagement; and (c) delivering high-quality services, educational and mental health programs, and initiatives that promote well-being. Thus, the successful candidate will demonstrate support for educational access and community engagement, as well as participate in maintaining a respectful, positive work environment. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires an earned doctorate from a regionally accredited college or university and academic experience commensurate with the rank of Associate Professor. This individual must have demonstrated capacity to conduct critical, community-engaged scholarship; seek and obtain external funding; teach, mentor, and advise graduate students using an equity lens; and have the ability to work effectively with historically underserved and marginalized students, staff, and faculty. Experience working in student affairs, higher education administration, and/or leadership is desired.

Required qualifications for Associate Professor rank:

  • Earned doctorate in higher education or a related field from a regionally accredited college or university;
  • Evidence of a national or international reputation as an expert in an area related to higher education or educational leadership;
  • Evidence of a sustained record of research publications;
  • Evidence of excellence in the mentorship of doctoral students;
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching and service.

Applicants for this position would be tenure-eligible; it would be expected that candidates requesting consideration of tenure in the Department of Educational Psychology, Leadership and Higher Education will meet requirements for tenure as outlined in our department bylaws and will be voted on by tenured faculty in our department during final job negotiation processes.

Credentials must be obtained prior to the start of employment.

The contract start date for this position is July 1, 2026, with position obligations beginning August 1, 2026.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Evidence of collaboration with individuals in other disciplines or work areas;
  • Experience working on dissertation committees as chair, co-chair, or member;
  • An active recording of procuring grant-based research support.
