Org. Setting and Reporting
This temporary position is located in the Department of Global Communications (DGC). The incumbent reports to the Chief of the Sustainable Development Section in the Communications Campaigns Service of the Campaigns and Country Operations Division and works under close supervision. The temporary position is initially available for 9 months.
Responsibilities
- Tracks, researches and analyzes information on assigned topics/issues; gathers information from diverse sources and helps to assess news value and other potential impact, as well as to evaluate the effectiveness of information campaigns.
- Drafts/compiles content for different kinds of communications products, including for websites, social media, briefings and presentations.
- Assists in the distribution of information material, including through media, UN information centres and the UN communications groups
- In consultation with others identifies and proposes information opportunities, activities and approaches, taking into account the situation/topic and target audience.
- Identifies key contacts/constituencies and opportunities for strategic partnerships to facilitate communication efforts and maintains working relationships with the same.
- Organizes or participates in the organization of conferences, seminar, press briefings, interviews, etc.; prepares briefing materials for senior officials prior to their participation in such events.
- Responds to a variety of inquiries and information requests internally and externally; prepares related correspondence.
Performs other duties as assigned Work implies frequent interaction with the following:
- Information Officers and other specialists throughout the organization Officials of other UN agencies, missions Counterparts and other representatives in others international organizations, government, NGOs, media business, academia, etc. Results expected: Contributes to institutional public communication efforts through good research, drafting, and analysis of assigned topics and timely preparation and distribution of information products to target audiences. Effectively organizes media events, conferences, etc. Consistently applies appropriate policies, guidelines and procedures. Effectively, and in a timely manner, liaises and interacts with colleagues and concerned parties internally and externally.
Education
- A first-level university degree in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration or related field is required.
Work Experience
- A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in public information, journalism, international relations, public administration or related area is required. Experience working on the Sustainable Development Goals is desirable. Experience in strategic communications is desirable. Experience and skills in the communications campaigns, web content writing, social media, project management, or media monitoring, is desirable.
Languages
- Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
