Our Culture & Environment
This position resides in Office of Administrative Solutions/Division of Facilities Management. This work unit exists to plan, design, construct, operate, maintain and manage the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) facilities and campuses according to all applicable standards in a manner that promotes the CDHS mission of providing a safe, sanitary and effective environment for clients, youth, residents, consumers and staff and enhances the quality of life in CDHS facilities and campuses and in the surrounding neighborhoods.
The facilities managed by the Division of Facilities Management (DFM) include 1,400 acres of land and 349 buildings comprised of 3.8 million square feet. The North district facilities are Colorado Mental Health Institute at Fort Logan (CMHIFL), 1575 Sherman, Wheat Ridge Regional Center (WRRC), Sunada (SLC), Satellite Group Homes, and the Division of Youth Services (Adams, Gilliam, Lookout Mountain, Marvin Foote, Mount View, Platte Valley, Prairie Vista, and Ridge View).
The Building Engineer position exists to operate the Central Heat Plants and the Energy Management System, monitor the Monaco D-21 Fire Alarm (a Life/Safety System), perform dispatch duties for service calls, coordinate maintenance functions that affect the EMS and perform whatever administrative functions are needed to document regulatory compliance and task completion.
This position monitors, adjusts and operates the High Temperature Hot Water Generators at J Plant as well as related equipment including fans, pumps, piping systems, valves, gauges, and computer based DDC systems, Emergency Diesel Generators, the Energy Management System and the Monaco D-21 Fire Alarm System etc. In addition, essential services such as electrical distribution, HTHW as an energy source that provides heating, hot water, process steam and emergency electrical power for the Ft. Logan campus. This position provides support for various equipment located at various sites around the state. Some examples are emergency generators, fuel tanks, fuel lines, mobile generators and other associated equipment. This position makes decisions regarding operation of equipment, set points, after hour calls and emergencies.

Minimum Qualifications
Three years of experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position
Substitutions
Appropriate education or successful completion of a formalized apprenticeship program will substitute for the required experience on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
Four years of progressively responsible full-time work experience within Central Utility Plant Operations working with a large corporation such as a Hospital, Xcel energy, Refinery, etc. (Part-time experience will be prorated). This experience must be clearly documented in your application.
