Description of Job
The Office of the Inspector General provides special support by conducting professional standards investigations, collecting intelligence and operating the Background Investigations Unit by conducting criminal investigation, providing fugitive operational support, and adjunct support to designated task force operations.
The position performs extensive research and compiles data on offenders to determine which offenders are required by state and federal law to register as sex offenders upon release from CDOC. Provides technical assistance and serves as the point of contact for case management, community parole officers, law enforcement agencies and offenders on matters regarding sex offender registration.
This position exists to provide technical assistance to each unit within the Office Of the Inspector General.
Job duties include but are not limited to:
- Analyze and evaluate all newly committed offenders for qualification to register. Exercise discretion and make operational decisions ensuring Registration Flags are activated for offenders who qualify to register for prior convictions, out of state
convictions, misdemeanor convictions and/or adjudications.
- Respond to requests for records submitted under the Colorado Open Records Act (CORA) and Colorado Criminal Justice Records Act (CCJRA) pertaining to all records in the custody or control of the OIG, including without limitation, CR and PS
investigations, informational reports, and complaint reports.

Position ensures that employment criteria is being met and determines eligibility of employment by accessing suitability of applicants within CDOC Standards.

This position will research databases to include NCIC/CCIC, CO Courts and DOC databases and apply applicable Colorado statutes to determine an employee’s status for possessing a firearm while on duty.
-
This position is responsible for fingerprinting offenders within the custody of CDOC that have been charged with a criminal offense pursuant to a court order.
-
The position will be responsible for creating, updating and maintaining accurate records in the Office of the Inspector General offense reporting database.
-
Position researches legal documentation from civil and criminal courts, District Attorney’s office, and police reports relating to criminal history and/or
behaviors of prospective applicants.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Four (4) years of *technical experience whichmustinclude two (2) years of experience in searching, querying, and modifying extensive and complex computer databases to obtain and analyze specific information; working in an environment requiring significant levels of confidentiality; and providing exceptional customer service working with diverse populations and intense subject matter. Any experience less than full time will be prorated.(This experience must be clearly described in your own word, within the work experience of your application to meet this requirement.)
*Technical work is skilled work in the practical application of specialized techniques, procedures, practices, or methods in order to accomplish tasks. The specialized work is a direct extension of a professional field which requires an understanding of that field in order to carry out the practical nature of the work.
Substitution:
College, university or non-correspondence school course work in criminal justice, criminology, business, psychology, sociology, or a social sciences related field may substitute for the experience on a year-for-year basis. A copy of your unofficial college transcript with your name, institution name, degree and date conferred must be attached to your application to verify your education.
