Sustainable Energy is going to be the biggest thing over the next 10 years, especially with this government’s energy agenda.On that agenda, there will be a long list of methodologies From Nuclear, to Solar, to wind turbines, that will be used in the UK to achieve that agenda.There is a lot to talk about here, and how this role fits into all that.I am working with an investment company that has acquired a Small Wind Turbine business, where they have pretty much everything going on but a Captain at the helm.As I said, everything is in place or on track to be in place over the next few months.

  • R&D is done, and some additional product development is in play.
  • Contractors are in place and ready to deliver
  • Contracts are in place with a few companies already AND a major government department.
  • Manufacturing at the point of starting.

All that is missing is you.The Challenge.What we are looking for from the get-go, is a good Commercial Manager that has experience taking a business from Start to Profitability. It’s fully invested in and has an idea of growth direction. There is no staff yet in this business, as everything has been outsourced to expert businesses in their field.So, it’s in a prime place for someone to put their ideas and direction on.BUT it doesn’t stop there, this person needs to have a solid understanding of the Sustainable energy sector, specifically things like alternative energy, Wind Turbines that sort of thing because the first part of the business plan, is driving the business to new customers, delivering to current contracts put in place, project management, and making things happen.I can add in here all the stuff that you would hear from an advert seeking such a person with passion and Visionary but this company expects that anyway, what they really want is someone with a can-do personality, that can get on with everyone, who understands the technical side of the role, and can deliver. That is important here.You, Your background…

  • Commercial Management:
  • Develop and execute successful sales and marketing strategies to drive sales of small wind turbine systems.
  • Manage and expand existing contracts with government and SME/large businesses.
  • Identify and negotiate new business opportunities, including partnerships and strategic alliances.
  • Manage pricing strategy to ensure market competitiveness and profitability.
  • Leadership and Strategy:
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive long-term growth strategy for the company, expanding market share and profitability.
  • Foster a strong company culture that prioritizes innovation, sustainability, and collaboration.
  • Provide strategic direction and oversight for all company departments.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including current customers
  • Project Management:
  • Oversee the successful implementation of ongoing projects related to turbine development, manufacturing, and installation.
  • Manage project budgets and timelines, ensuring on-time and on-budget delivery.
  • Identify and mitigate potential project risks.
  • Financial Management:
  • Work closely with the CFO to develop and manage the company’s financial plan.
  • Secure funding to support growth initiatives, including venture capital, grants, and loans.
  • Oversee financial reporting and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations.
  • People Management as the Business Grows –
  • Recruit, hire, and retain a talented and dedicated team.
  • Provide leadership development and mentorship for all employees.
  • Cultivate a positive and productive work environment.

Qualifications:

  • Around 10 years+ of experience in a senior leadership role within the renewable energy sector, preferably with a focus on wind energy.
  • Proven track record of success in developing and executing growth strategies for a startup or high-growth company.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to lead complex projects to successful completion.
  • Excellent commercial acumen with a deep understanding of sales, marketing, and pricing strategies.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
  • Passion for sustainability and a commitment to making a positive impact on the environment.

Additional Skills (desirable):

  • Experience working with government and large corporations.
  • An engineering background would be brilliant, but not 100% essential the ability to understand the technical nuance of the product is a must. (drawings, the science, how it works, and what it can produce).
