We are looking for a Civil Engineer, New Graduate to join our team to prepare and oversee Civil Engineering activities that arise during the execution of work linked to Decommissioning and Environmental Remediation at CNL.   • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team to complete the required task.
  • Ability to carry out research as to which codes and standards to apply, materials to use and procedures to follow during analysis, calculations and in the design.
  • Be a field presence for Operations staff to contact and be able to provide advice and guidance.
  • Indicate any other features or elements of the job which have not been previously described but are considered necessary to gain a clear understanding of the job.
  • Leading all discipline related engineering activities and work packages that may present itself during the development and execution of Decommissioning and Environmental work outlined in the milestone plans.
  • Helping scope engineering activities for the Project group.

What we are looking for:

  • At minimum, a Bachelors (Honour) in Engineering or Science from a university of recognized standing; or membership in an engineering or scientific professional organization authorized by statute to establish qualification for membership in that organization. Generally, less than 2 years experience.
  • Proficiency in the use computer programs, Word, Excel, MathCad, STADD Pro, and other related engineering programs.
  • Ability to interpret and develop client’s needs. Where necessary, recommend alternatives to satisfy the requirements while remaining compliant and prepare the final solution (design, report). Recommendations must be compliant with codes and procedures, while being technically accurate, feasible, and buildable. Professionalism to remain current with advances in technology, materials, and processes.
  • Sound knowledge of Civil engineering discipline, some experience is considered an asset.
  • Sound knowledge of HVAC and ventilation systems is considered an asset.
  • Sound knowledge of Pressure Boundary systems, and CNL Pressure Boundary program is considered an asset.
  • Sound knowledge of relevant codes and standards used in the design, construction, and commissioning of nuclear and non-nuclear facilities.
  • Knowledge of Design Engineering practices, organization and quality assurance processes, Engineering Change Control and Configuration Management.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in technical matters, to routinely solve technical problems and to make independent decisions.
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills; previous experience making technical presentations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Nuclear quality standards.
  • Knowledge of radiation protection (RP) standards and RP practices.
  • Demonstrated effective team leadership and team-building skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team and interact with staff at various levels of the organization.
  • Supervisory and project management experience would be an asset.
  • Excellent knowledge of CNL’s engineering practices, organization and quality management program is an asset.

Location of Work – Hybrid

  • This role is based out of CNL’s Chalk River site, however, subject to the terms of this agreement, the primary work location will be remote. The role will require some regular and frequent attendance at the Chalk River site. The schedule and frequency will be determined by discussions with the manager as well as internal client and project needs. CNL may require travel from time to time, as necessary.
