What we do:

Everyone has an idea of what a water company does. Here in Yorkshire, we make sure that over
five million people living and working in the region can rely on our services, providing clean
and plentiful drinking water on tap and safely managing wastewater. But for us, it’s so much
more than this.

We safeguard our communities, protect the environment, and plan to look after Yorkshire’s water
today and tomorrow, 24/7, 365 days a year. We provide essential water and wastewater services
to every corner of the Yorkshire region, and play a key role in the region’s health, wellbeing,
and prosperity.

New environmental challenges, unprecedented levels of investment and changing customer
expectations means that this is an exciting time to discover opportunities within the water
industry. Our Strategy & Regulation colleagues will play a key part of how we will deliver
safe, resilient, affordable services for our customers and protect the environment in future.

Where you fit in:

As our Climate Adaptation Strategy Manager, you will lead and support Yorkshire Water in
building resilience to climate change by assessing climate-related risks and opportunities,
developing and implementing cross-business adaptation strategies and plans, and managing
climate adaptation reporting activities.

This role sits within our Sustainable Business team, alongside colleagues working on other
activities such as net zero, social value, and impact reporting. You will also collaborate with
other colleagues across the business, including those in our Risk, Engineering, and Programme
Delivery teams.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Lead on identifying climate-related risks and opportunities across Yorkshire Water
(including both physical and transition risks and opportunities), assessing potential impacts,
    and establishing key risk indicators.
  • Create a cross-business climate change adaptation strategy to strengthen Yorkshire Water’s
adaptative capacity and work with colleagues to translate the strategy into plans and processes
    for specific business areas.
  • Monitor delivery of the climate change adaptation strategy, including providing updates to
    Executive and Board-level committees.
  • Manage production of climate-related communications, including annual climate-related
financial disclosures (CFD) and future rounds of Climate Adaptation Reporting.
  • Collaborate with internal colleagues to raise awareness of climate risks and opportunities,
secure commitment and resources for climate adaptation activities, contribute to ongoing
initiatives, and drive resilience across the business.
  • Engage with external stakeholders and contribute to partnership activities to tackle shared
climate adaptation challenges across the region and the water sector.
  • Keep abreast of emerging issues, best practice, and regulatory requirements related to
    climate adaptation.

What we’re looking for:

  • Technical knowledge and understanding of climate science, policy, and legislation relevant
    to a business context.
  • Experience of undertaking climate change risk, vulnerability, and impact assessments.
  • Experience of developing and/or implementing climate adaptation strategies.
  • Knowledge of climate adaptation scenario analysis, reporting frameworks, and management
    standards
  • Experience of data monitoring, data analysis, and creating clear management information to
    inform decisions.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and establish relationships with internal and external
stakeholders to achieve results, including influencing effectively at senior levels.
  • Strong written and verbal presentation skills, with the ability to clearly communicate
technical issues in ways that are accessible to different audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and manage time efficiently.
  • Committed to driving change for the better, innovative and resilient in the face of
obstacles, and able to offer constructive challenge.

You’ll also benefit from having:

  • Knowledge and experience of wider sustainability matters
  • Knowledge and experience of the wider water industry.
  • Chartered membership of a relevant professional body
