Comms Lead

500k is a charity which trains and sends Indian people to plant churches in unreached villages in India.

We are looking for a British or American native-English speaker with experience of the Christian charity sector who can oversee our Comms Officer in making our communications and marketing more effective for donor engagement and retention.

500k’s communications strategy is implemented by our full-time Comms Officer, who is an Indian living in India.

1. To motivate our supporters to maintain or increase their giving
2. To raise up prayer support for 500k’s mission
3. To inspire our supporters to walk more closely with Jesus

The Comms Lead will provide leadership to the Comms Officer. This will primarily look like consulting on our communications strategy (what we do, when and how), which the Comms Officer can implement. There will also be a quality improvement role through mentoring the Comms Officer and providing feedback on their content to improve execution of the strategy.

• Committed Christian
• Alignment with our vision & values
• Understanding of effective comms & marketing in the Christian charity sector
• Ability to work with staff of Indian background (Indians living in India)

Current Comms Strategy

• Due to online security risks, we do not use social media, and we engage supporters primarily through email and WhatsApp.
• This looks like weekly content on a WhatsApp group, and a monthly newsletter
• We also run a sponsorship system connecting donors with individual church planters
• Again due to online security risks, the impact of our website is reduced due to its need to comply with our online content policy. This content policy does not extend to blog posts/podcasts hosted on third party sites, and these do steer new donors to 500k.
• Supporters are also engaged through online prayer meetings and ‘live sessions’ with team members in India.

The Comms Lead functions are currently performed by the 500k CEO, who is operating outside of his strengths in these functions. The Comms Lead will both increase the impact of 500k’s communications objectives, and free up the CEO to focus on programme implementation and major donor fundraising.
