Communications CoordinatorPrimary Purpose: The Communications Coordinator is responsible for providing communications support for University Communications. The primary goal of the position is to support the Unit’s goals and priorities with effective communications that builds, maintains and protects the University of Saskatchewan’s reputation regionally, nationally and internationally.Nature of Work: This position requires strong writing and communications skills for a variety of formats and channels, including web, video, social media, marketing, events, print, etc. The preferred candidate will have a strong understanding of best practices for communicating with various audiences and experience with creating content for and using a variety of digital channels. We are looking for someone who is flexible, able to get up to speed quickly, able to juggle multiple projects, effective at building relationships with multiple stakeholders and working in a collaborative team environment. This position will likely have a combination of remote and on-campus work, with details to be determined upon hiring. Consequence of error is significant to the reputation and profile of the university. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required.Reporting Structure: The Communications Coordinator reports to the Communications Specialist on the central university communication unit, while working with communicators from across campus. The incumbent is a member of the Offices of the Vice-President University Relations.Typical Duties or Accountabilities: * Write and edit a wide variety of communications pieces, including stories (includes conducting interviews), news releases, web content, ad copy, speaking notes, social media posts, e-newsletters, presentations, etc.

  • Creation of communications plans to support initiatives and events and then working with the team to implement those plans
  • Providing communications support for various media relations, social media, internal communications initiatives, including communications planning, writing, web and social media content creation, etc.
  • Provide advice on communications, marketing and public relations; draft speeches, briefings, powerpoint presentations and other documents.
  • Create and collate a variety of digital and print content for numerous USask channels, including pulling together images, video, graphics and text as appropriate for the intended audience and the channel (working with a graphic designer).
  • Provide logistical support for various systems and projects, such as helping with the digital asset management system, manage communications requests, helping with photoshoots and videoshoots, and others as required.
  • Steward the USask brand and visual identity.
  • Assist with other communications projects as required.

Education: An undergraduate university degree, preferably in communications, journalism, marketing or related field. Experience with photography or video would also be considered an asset. An equivalent level of education and experience may be considered.Experience: One to three years of directly related experience in related areas of communications and marketing. Knowledge of the University of Saskatchewan, the academic environment and/or advancement would be an asset.Skills:

  • Demonstrated communications skills and experience applying them in a complex environment, working with multiple stakeholders
  • Experience with photography or video would be an asset
  • Understanding of digital communications platforms, including social media (best practices and content creation) and web/graphic-based storytelling
  • Experience creating and implementing communications plans
  • Experience with marketing and ad copy writing
  • Excellent writing and editing abilities, careful attention to detail and proofreading skills
  • Ability to conceptualize and create content for a variety of channels, including web, video, social media, media, print, etc.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills including tact, diplomacy, professionalism and ethical behavior
  • Ability to deliver projects on time and on budget
  • Comfortable with juggling multiple priorities or switching priorities in a fast-moving environment
